We bought new Raclet flores trailer tent last year. Loved that we can use it without awning for couple of nights away. I love the idea of being able to take off with kids when/ if nice weather arrives. Am able to put up tent on my own no problem but husband gave me hitching lesson today didn't go well! He says that he was told by dealer to only use jockey wheel couple of turns and has to physically lift trailer on to tow bar? I dont believe this is right as not everyone is that strong and I'm sure thats why his back was so bad last summer????!! Anyway I'm quite strong and very determined and want to be able to do this. Jockey wheel collapsed today as I didnt realise I needed to tighten it and now apparently need new one as not gaining height when turning. Can someone please give me hitching tips and confirm that you dont need to be superman to do it! Many thanks Julie

Only a novice myself but i have just bought a new sunncamp 400, and the guy at camperlands told us to raise and lower the jockey wheel to help with hitching the trailer to save having to lift it. I don`t know about your type of trailer but i would have thought they were all the same.   maybe someone else might know more.

I always hitch mine by using the jockey wheel.

How do you mean you need a new one?

1. Wind the jockey wheel about half-way out

2. Loosen the clamp and raise the hitch to tow-ball height (keeping jockey wheel on the ground). Tighten the clamp.

3. Wind the wheel further out and position the hitch over the ball.

4. Wind the jockey wheel in allowing the hitch to lower onto the ball.

5. Loosen the jockey wheel clamp and remove/raise the spindle.

A couple of thoughts...

It's no bad thing to put the coupling on by hand, as it makes sure it's firmly on, but it is by no means essential. Use the jockey wheel!

It sounds like the fitting at the top of the jocket wheel has come adrift (it happens sometimes). You'll probably need a new jockey wheel I'm afraid.

Something similar happened to us last year. Got new jockey wheel at nearest caravan  sales room (so we got the right one) no problems.   when we engage the hitch to the tow bar I make Oh sit in the car to lower it makes it easier that way
