Hi

We are a family of 5, ages 5,4 & 3, and the two responsible adults of indiscriminant ages, and we are planning heading off for our summer hols in the trailer tent. We had a wee shot last year which was successful, so we have decided to be a bit more adventurous this summer and have planned 5-6 days near Oxford, then the same on the south coast for a beach hol (we are travelling down from Ayrshire). On the way home we have a cottage in the lakes for a week (freebie). This is all happening the first 2-3 weeks in July.

So my queries:
is £30/night standard costs?
do we need a "fully serviced pitch" or just a "elec supply"?
any good recommendation for a south coast campsite?
and, how do we get the kids to sleep past day break?
and any other useful tips would be greatly appreciated.

If this all goes well, we might venture over the water next summer and go continental for part of the trip.

Some sites charge per person ( ie camping and caravan) and some sites per pitch. We use camping and Caravan and in August for london we paid abut £25 per night including electric (they dont charge for under 5's).

Some sites say a serviced pitch which means electric others say fully serviced or super pitch which is normally drainage/ water/ tv point, you'd need to check with each site regarding their definition but we only have electric, apart from when we're in Holland as they say we have a big tent so need the larger serviced pitch!

We've only stayed near Lyme regis when camping and sorry cannt remember sites name. If you want a site for school holidays I'd advise booking now especially if you are looking for a site with entertainment/ swimming pool.

My kids get up between 5.30 and 6.30 at home, but after only 1 day camping and a 4 mile walk, they slept until 9am the next day! So plenty of Fresh air and a slightly later bed time might do it!

Best advise is to have fun, kids love camping and we all know happy kids = happy parents!

For electric in the school holidays £30 is about what I would expect. Electric is probably all you want. Fully serviced have a tap ehu waste and often tv point and more often than not are on hardstanding.

Use the mallet for the kids ? I only had four children so never quite sussed out the sleeping bit. We said the first one up has to do the washing up which helped.

Hi Leadstone in Dawlish Warren is very nice. It has a play area, is in walking distance of the beach - downhill on the way, maybe catch bus back up. There's no clubhouse or swimming pool and is quiet in the evenings. Maybe all that fresh sea air will knock the children out and they'll sleep in?
