Hi Everyone, In the market to buy a FC. Seen one on ebay for £1,300.00 - Sunncamp Venture 2006. Deal seems too good to be true after comparing with others. I cannot find a website for the company?? Do I need to be wary? Is quality of canvas etc inferior? Any views anyone may have, good or bad, would be much appreciated.

 the web address for sunncamp is www.sunnflair.com  i think sunncamp no longer make FC just TT  and tents we have a sunncamp 400se tt and we love it it's a great tent and well  made in my mind  its 8 years old and lots off years left in her yet some people say the canvas is not as good as others but hay you may get a bargain if i was after one i would go for it

Hi, we've got a Sunncamp 400 SE tt and love it- easier to put up than a fc and smaller to tow/store. I tow it with a Golf Mk6 diesel and it's great- circa 50 to the gallon.  I reckon you could get a good cond one on eBay for about 600 quid.  Canvas and build quality no different to Combi etc in my opinion.  We've never had any problems in 4 years.

people get very hot under the collar about Sunncamps, so I will content myself with stating the facts which I found out about Ventures when I looked into them last year.

1: They are still made and sold by Sunncamp, although they are completely unadvertised by Sunncamp and are not on their website. They cost circa £4000 new.

2: They use lighter weight canvas and thinner poles then any other make of camper. Also, the canvas is unbranded Chinese canvas not Ten Cate like many others.

3: The camper is entirely empty of any "features" such as electricity or running hot and cold water.

4: The price includes an awning, which is nice.

So far, we are in facts. The next bit is opinion, which no doubt others will agree or disagree with.
I wouldn't recommend one. The canvas struck me as thin, and the poles as flimsy. The finish was well, well sub Conway/Pennine standard. The whole thing looked a bit slung together, and I decided that for the same money I could get a Conway/Pennine that was older that I felt would last quite a lot longer.

By the way, and not wishing to be rude about anybody's tent, it is a fact that Sunncamp canvas poles, canvas and build quality are nothing like as good as Combi, Camplet, Raclet etc. Neither is the price, mind.

The above tents use Ten Cate 280-420 gsm canvas and 32mm poles, Sunncamps use unbranded chinese canvas and 24mm poles. Sunncamps have compressed mdf bedboards, others use ply etc. etc.

This isn't to say that they aren't worth the money, they are after all fabulous value, but among Camplet, Raclet etc. owners, the test of a long lasting tent is whether it lasts 40 years, not 8....
