When took our rapido out on it's first outing we found that the the underneath sides of the cushions were damp on both beds and even the table was really damp like i had just wiped it over.  It was a bit annoying sitting on damp cushions and then there was the packing away, we had to remove the cushion covers.

On the table side we used a memory foam on top of  the normal cushions and as I say it happened on the childrens bed as well.

We had the heater on all night and that didn;t help.  Any ideas greatfully recieved please.

Thank you

Yes, this is caused by condensation. Are the beds solid? You could buy some bed slats (Ikea, apparently) to put on top of the bed underneath the cushions which will help.

Well when we had the heater on we didn;t have hardly any condensation anywhere so would you still get it underneath the cushions?

Also the kids bed is plywood base with a gap of about a foot from the floor to the bed a bit like a bunk. so 3 poles attached to the wall with 2 sheets of plywood on top. I was surprised with this bed having the damp what with being plywood and being so far off the floor

our bed is the 2 bench seats with the thick wood table in the middle.

So you think some slats would work then with this set up?

Thank you

Hi Wondermummy,

Rapido's are prone to condensation. They need their vents open all the time. There is one at the bottom corner (cooker side) under the settee and one over each door section. I always leave these vents open and quite often the window over the sink ajar at the night time only (security and all that).

The amount of condensation you get depends on a couple factors, The temperature outside and how many people are inside. Because of what rapido's are made out of, if its cold outside and you have say 3 or 4 people inside it steams up and it has to go somewhere. Could the water running down your window and wall and then settling onto the side boxes causing the underside of the cushions to get wet. Same could apply to the settee side.

A heater can help but as soon as you turn it off for the night the condensation happens again while you are asleep.

I don't expect you to freeze in your rapido (we never have) but ventilation is the key i'm afraid.

I hope I have helped to shed a bit of light on the problem.

Dawn.

Unfortunatly this is a common problem with the Rapido's

I have had a Confort and an Export and they were both the same

It is caused by the alluminium frame in the wall

It goes right through to the out side and transferes the cold inside the van

You breath out moisture and he presto it condences on the alliminum frame and drips down onto    well every thing

Using a heater makes no difference

I eventually covered the ally frame on mine with a foam strip this did stop it from getting too bad  but I eventually got rid of the van

They were only realy made to be used in warm and dry countrys which is a real shame as the van it's self is a brilliant idea

Well thanks for the info everyone, I did do that search on condensation and I have alot of things to try so we shall see if anything works. I don;t remember having this problem as a child but then we only ever went away in the real summer so maybe that was why. Hopefully with the tips from you all and the ones from the search we may maybe able to find something that helps.

Thanks

Just to add, We never had this problem. Yes there where beads of condensation on the alloy strips but that was all. We allways had to have the door above the cooker open on a night (due to the Mrs haveing hot flushes) A piece of net curtain held in place with some bulldog clips keeps the mozys out!

We used to get some in our Montana and when we get up and dressed, I pull the foam up some and put a few tins underneath to get some air in.

We find the foam abit thin, so use a double airbed on top.

You could try getting some silicone bead pads (cant think of the product name) the sort that some goods have in the packaging I had a similar problem since using these the problem has gone away....just a thought!!

Hi,

Anything is worth a try, like Paul said, the main areas of condensation in ours were on the alluminium strips. Your best bet in keeping it as aired as you can. Always keep your vents open and the window above the oven.

I must admit though that I hadn't thought of the Silicon thingies. If you do try them let me know the outcome.

We did exactly the same thing with the net as well Paul, works a treat. Great minds etc.

Anyhow good luck.

Try cat litter in a loose weave bag. It is as effective and a lot cheaper than silica gel
