Does anyone/everyone else have problems when towing with the transit cover billowing up along the back end of the camper. We tow ours with a 4X4 and when the cover rises up it cuts down the rear view mirror vision. I should say this does not happen all the time, it's maybe just a wind direction thingy.
Is it as easy to cure as just putting some sort of tie down strap across it?

Shock cord tight. I don't want to double wrap the shock cord as all that will happen is it will stretch and be of no use.

We tow our Pathfinder with a Seat Alhambra and have had this problem many times. Seems to be fine at low speeds but when on motorways or dual carrageways the rear end of the cover lifts up blocking rear vison. Was told by a fellow camper that it was the down braft caused by the car.We have over come this problem by making a long bungy cord. I attach this towards the rear of the camper and strech it over the top of the transit cover. Have had no problem since.
Nigel thanks for that, thought I was the only one Is it a reeeeaaaaly long cord that you hook underneath the camper. From looking under the camper the only place that I can see to attach something, is the corner steadies.

Towed our pathfinder to the New Forest,Somerset,Northumberland and plenty of local weekends away and have never had any problems with the cover billowing. Our car is a Saab and is relatively low to the ground, mabe therefore eliminating the said problem.Cheers John.
Must admit we have the same effect towing with a Sedona. The cover seems to balloon up at motorway speeds. Thought about putting a strap halfway between the axle and the rear to stop it a bit, but never actually got round to it. Doesn't appear to block rear vision for me, pehaps the Sedona is that little bit higher? and as nigel2 says it could be caused by turbulence from the car. Funnily enough thinking about it, when we tow with the top box on the car it doesn't seem so bad.

Could you not hook a bungee onto the noggins that the transit cover elastic hooks onto?
We tow ours with a discovery and occassionally get the same billowing.
I did not think the hooks on a bungee would catch on those noggins, but have now tried it and yep jobs a good un. I just need to buy an extra couple of bungee's.
Thanks everyone for your responses. It seesm it must be to do with wind and high backed vehicles.

Sorry should have explained it a bit clearer. If you work from the rear of the camper, hook the bungee on the second noggin in and strech the bungee across the rear bed to the other side.I found the bungee at one of the diy shops on a large roll,i think we brought about 3m and cut it to size.
Yes we had the billowing problem too on our Sterling behind our Grand Scenic. It happens even with a roof load but did'nt happen when the camper was young.
However we might not have been able to see it as the Vectra we had before the scenic was so low we could not see over the top of the camper. We traced the problem down to the elastic shock cord on the cover losing its stregnth . We cured it by replacing the elastic cord with new identical black cord (bought from a marine chandler Northampton sailboats with the jointing clips for under a tenner - much cheaper than Pennine). Only tricky bit was feeding it through the sleeve at the front which we achieved with the help of a long curtain wire and some scrap talcum powder. Before we joined the two ends of the cord together i also put a piece of black heat shrink sleeve over the joint and borrowed the wife's hairdrier to shrink it on so it even looks like a factory job!
( the joint not my haircut)
------------- Aye the force is strong in ye but thoo's not yet a Geordie.
Perhaps it does happen to us but because the unit fills the rear windscreen view we wouldn't know or perhaps the air flow on larger cars causes the effect. In July I have to follow John in my car so I shall watch with interest.
