would a halfords or avenir upright rack fit onto the camplet roof rack as most racks seem to fit square or rectangular bars

Terry

I have heard of people putting other types of upright bike racks onto the Camplet but you would need to source some method of attaching them as the bars on the rack are small circular diameter with not much clearance between the trailer. This narrow diameter of the trailer rack does not give a good base to get a solid/immovable fix when you are travelling at speed with bikes.

When I spoke with Camperlands they quoted people removing them as they wobbled about too much! I can understand this as the Camplet specific one has the plates/bolts that fit in the narrow clearance and also have additional bars that spread the load accros the trailer and provide a wider footprint for the fix point. The Camplet one is expensive but I can recommend it as I use it all the time and it is rock solid. ps - also noticed that the upright bars are about 6 inches either side of the centre line on the camplet type, attached to the extra bars that run accross the width of the trailer, so making the sideways motion much less likely!

I used to use these types of rack on my roof (before we got the Camplet) and had to swap the Halfords make for a more "expensive" type as they were not robust enough and moved. Granted nothing fell off with them but I didn't like the movement!

David.

thanks for the advice will order a camplet rack no point spending on a couple of cheaper racks if its going to be a false economy.

I bought a camplet concorde last year, and had a bike rack fitted by camperlands. However I have had problems with the clamps coming undone during travel. Any ideas as to what I can do?

All I do is lay the bikes down on the camplet roof rack and secure with a couple of luggage straps. No wobble or movement and no additional height that you would have to consider if using a bike rack.

Hi shootpool

Do you put anything protective down? Take the pedals off?? I am pondering the bike thing as we never use the trailer roof. How many bikes do you put on it?

The only protective I use 17 is the camplet groundsheet, which is laid on the roof bars first, other than that just strap them down.
