Hi again, another daft question regarding our camplet... the previous owner had a stick on number plate just written in marker, we found a temporary solution to get the trailer home but now want to fix the number plate on properly, does anyone with a cmaplet have a "proper" plastic plate and if so how is it attatched?  I'm just warey of drilling into the back of the kitchen unit if its not a good idea!

Thanks

Andy

I dont know if this is any use to you, but I recently bought a folding camper, and needed to put a new number plate on the back.  The shop I bought it from sold some double sided sticky strips - like a thin foam but seriously gluey on each side.

I bought about half a dozen and just stuck my number plate in place.  Saved the worry of having to drill and it seems to be set rock solid.

The number plates on both my car and Camper are all stuck on with double sided tape. As long as you get a 4 or 5mm thick outdoor quality tape there should be no problem.

I bought my Camplet new from Camperlands and as both posters pointed out above that is the method they use to fix the plate.

The sticky pads are seriously sticky - I also use them on one of my other cars.

I use self adhesive velcro tape in strips. It is an excellent thickness and holds extremely well.

Hi

I bought my Camplet from a dealer in Holland and he drilled two small holes into the back and used two self tapping screws to hold the plate in place with no problems

We were told to use sticky pads - and lost the number plate first time out!! After much research I bought some more pads (no more nails variety), and made sure I cleaned the area first with soapy water, then with meths to get rid of any wax or polish. Its been fine since.

Alison

I read on another post you have the additional bedroom awning for your camplet.  Hope you dont mind me asking how much was it.  I have two children boy and girl and in time will need one.  we also have a dog now so the extra space would come in handy but dreading phoning camperlands to find out (may pass out with price!!)

Hi Louise, to tell the truth I can't remember. I'm pretty sure it was over £400, but we added up everything we needed and decided if we could afford the final figure, I don't want to remember how much we spent!

We bought it for the same reason as you, a boy and a girl, and we too have just got a dog! We bought the lot together, but apart from a first trial pitch we haven't actually used the annex yet, it will be getting its first outing in August. I had to check with the site whether we could use it, because it must make the whole unit at least 5m wide (I couldn't find a definite figure) and thats very close to 'large tent' issues!

Apart from a bit of bickering the kids are fine together in their sleeping bags and they are 11 and 13 now. I've decided since we have it to use it when we go away for a week and have the dog as well, but tbh I think a little pop up pup tent would have done just as well and been a lot cheaper!

It was £429 last year - ouch!!

I have one and keep it permanently attached, even when folded away. It's good for storage, loo or even extra sleeping. When attached I think the width is still under 5m as the pod sits slightly inside the main area and doesn't extend the full width out if that helps. Never had a problem yet getting it onto a standard pitch.

David.

Ta for that.

I went on Camperlands website according to that it's now £479!!! I knew it would be dear but that shocked me. But I do feel we would benefit from it even from the storage point of view and the loo.

Ta Alison and David.

Got alot to think about.

Hi Louise,

Also bear in mind that you lose the ventilation and light on that side of the tent. I didn't think about it when we bought it, but in practice we open up that panel (it has bug mesh) a lot. I'm going to see how we get on in August, I'll let you know.

BTW, you can get number plate fixing "tape" at Halfords, specifically for the purpose.
