My 1984 Esterel Primatic C34 has a transformer fitted underneath. When the mains is plugged in, it supplies the 12v system. There is a plunger type switch, which pops out if a battery is fitted.  Does any one know why this happens? Is is supposed the charge the battery? Does any one have a hand book for the transformer please?  Paul..................

Hi, from the info I have the C34 was never fitted with a battery. The 12v system for lighting was AC direct from transformer with diodes fitted if you had a water pump. As with modern vans the car battery was used for fridge while in transit, I have removed the esterel electrics and modernized with new 230v RCD system and internal battery with charger.  If you are connecting directly to the transformer then you are connecting AC not DC to the battery this would be the reason for the trip.

regards Pete.

Hi Pete, Thanks for that. I seem to have the best of all worlds here. Our van has also been fitted with a consumer unit with RCD. I can use the battery and be self sufficient with a gas bottle. When I am plugged in I get mains and 12v. I tried it all out weekend before last. All works great. Nice to get  a reply. No one seems to know much about Esterels on here. People that have one know they have got one and that seems to be the limit of there Knowledge. I have spent weeks researching what I have got. Even the guy I bought it off didnt know what year or model it was.17

Hi Paul,

The date plate is fixed to the centre of the axle. I do have some details on Esterels between 1985 and 1989 from old magazines ie prices, berths, length, width, folded height, raised height, headroom, unladen weight, max gross weight and min suggested tow car weight.

regards pete.

Yes found out about the plate on the axel. Ours is 1984 but you would think it was nearly new as it  is in suprisingly good condition. Must have been kept under cover most of its life. I have it in my front garden covered with a tarp. I am paronoid about damp. Sold our Rapido folder and bought an Alpine Sprite from Ebay. Turned out to be over 50% damp behind walls. Sold for spares. Heart broken. Bought a damp meter. Once bitten etc. What sort of price did they go for in the 80s ?
