Newbie here and new to camping generally so need some help please!! We are looking to buy a trailer tent second hand and like the look of a Sunncamp 350 or Racelet Marathon. Does anyone have any info on any of these or can you advise as to which one is better?
Any advice generally also would be appreciated as to what to look for etc etc.
I can only go from experience of a sunncamp 350se trailer tent, we think they are excellent. They are quite big you have a large awning area and with lots of space and what we liked was the under pods so if 8 of use went away we all had a room to sleep. We have since brought a caravan as we want to go away all through the year and are hoping to go away for new year.
We still have the trailer tent it is up for sale at the minute.
we have a Marathon - it can also sleep 8 by using the pods although we use them for storage. We have found it to very spacious and extremely stable in high winds. Our only grumble is the wood effect studd the use on the sink / cooker unit tops an on top of the storage lockers - it is not of illiant quality - although everything else is! - and the hinges are not very good. These are onl minor points however and we highly rate our unit. We bought the sun canopy bit for the font which is a godsend for bbq ing under in the rain!
not owned either, used to have a raclet minto , which was fine . if you search on preloved.co.uk for sunncamp it comes up with quite a few for sale, some in essex and others in kent and surrey. good luck. regards stuart
Sunncamps are nothing like the quality of Raclets. MDF bedboards, cheap chinese canvas, thin poles which have been known to bend or snap in wind.
Raclets are made from 480gsm Ten Cate canvas. Nobody uses thicker or better.
Sunncamps are cheap and cheerful, and many people camp for many years in them very successfully, but... if they are the same price, it's like choosing between an Aston Martin and a Ford Fiesta.
We camped at weymouth last year when we had torrential rain and very very strong winds, the tt stood up to that. We had no rips, tears or bent poles.I think it personal choice. We loved ours but we had the chance of a great caravan that we can use all year. We have used the tt up until the end of october and had a heater on and it was fine but i think we would be too cold in December/January.
I had a Sunncamp 350 SE. Sold it a few weeks ago. The only reason was because of my arthritis I was unable to erect it. I found the 350 very good, plenty of space. Beds were large and comfy, the kitchen and storage superb. The awning is massive and this is what takes so long to erect. Towed well, and was excellent in bad weather the canvas was superb. But the time it took to erect was the stumbling point for me. Have now bought a Inesca Tirol which is smaller but so easy to erect, 15mins against over an hour+ for the Sunncamp.
------------- It always rains on tents. Rainstorms will travel thousands of miles, against prevailing winds for the opportunity to rain on a tent.
Having owned two Raclet's but have used Sunncamp products I would have to say a Raclet. The tencate canvas is superb.... I have been in some of the most awful weather were people have packed up and gone home or just left their tents, our Raclet had no problem in a storm and kept us dry. I hope whichever one you decide on you get a bargain and have many happy outings
I have had both a Sunncamp and a Raclet trailer tent - perfered the Raclet as it was easier to erect. Also there was no way I could lift the Sunncamp kitchen unit solo. Only reasin we sold the Raclet is that we had a buyer, and were after a Folding Camper. The idea being it would make life eaier for me when I took the kids solo. Only problem is that I swapped cars, and my new car won't tow it.
