Hi everyone, a friend of mine is off to see a folding camper tonight and as I cannot offer him much advice I thought I would try here.
The camper is American I believe and it is being sold for 1000 Euro (£650) but does has a few holes in the canvas, apparantly been caused by the opening mechanism. It also has a hard roof and sleeps 6.
At this price and age could a DIY job be done on the canvass and what should he look out for on this particular model. Any advice would be much appreciated.
stay clear of it the parts are hard to get hold of here you have to get shipped from canada there isnt anyone to service it and more importantly its illegal in this contry it weighs to much and dosent have brakes lovely size but when u can get uk spec with no problems for that sort of money guess what I d be doing
Im only saying this as we fell for the starcraft a while a go the cables had snapped but as b and q sell them we paid 70.00 for its and then spent the next 2 years underneath it it whent up once put it away then wouldnt got up again that 70.00 was the worst thing we could have done as it nearly involved solicitors (divorce proceedings etc) the fraze so near yet so far came to mind, so if we ever did get it working I dont think that I would have any confidence in it for a weekend if it came down how are we going to get out! my father drove 150 miles to help fix it last year and couldnt do it so we wighed it in. Unfortunatley dad died earlier this year but he left me some money so I got the proper job and bought a conway cardinal best thing we did , weve just had 2 weeks in wales and I think he would have been pleased for us.
They are home based in Wisconsin. The price for a replacement is around $600 us. The shipping might be high $ going to the U.K. but I'm not sure. If the camper is in really good condition it may be worth considering.
BTW, what is the model year?

------------- 1992 Viking Spirit 210SD--$1,000
2003 GMC Senoma 4x4, 4 door sport/trailer package--$22,000
Quality time spent with family on camping trips--PRICELESS
I have a 1980 Coleman Williamsburg and a canvas from bearcreek is $900 which is brillian that is with shipping . BUT I will have to pay 12% import duty and then 17.5% VAT which is a right pain and makes it almost as expansive as a new canvas from the UK . The camper is in brilliant condition just the stiching is deteriorating on the canvas, although it did withstand gales in Dorset 2 weeks ago
