Having been a while since we last used our camper we have just brought a new battery and cannot remember which way the red switch under the seat on top of the charger should be switched to either 12v or switched the other way when we connect the EHU on site or does it not matter

Give Pennine a call they will probably be able to let you know the correct position of the switch

Well considering this is a large company thy do not answer their e- mails and when you phone them thy say that their customer services are to busy then thy hang up you don,t even get a chance to hold for an adviser i find this a   very poor service and its the same for the reception.

Umm, they are usually better than that. Try the Owners Club

http://www.pennineownersclub.org.uk/content/default.asp?nId=1

Someone there might help.

From memory I think one position on the switch charges the leisure battery, and one bypasses it, so the EHU runs the sockets and 240 stuff, and the battery runs the 12v  sockets. But I might and probably am suffering from memory loss as usual.

The illuminated switch on the top of the PM54 unit controls the built in battery charger in the power management unit.

When hooked up to the mains, the PM54 unit sends 240v to the 3 pin sockets. Leaving the battery to supply the 2 pin 12v sockets on its own.  So, if you say plugged in a 12v TV, it would kill the battery PDQ.

But to use the battery charging facilty built into the module to charge the leisure battery, (basically to run the 12v sockets off the mains via the battery) to power the hypothetical TV,   set the car/ van selector switch below the battery condition meter on the electrical control panel next to the door to "van" and set the illuminated switch to the "on" position  (lit) to engage the charging circuit.

Thanks for the info. Ah.....so just leave the red switch to 12v lit with the EHU connected then will be running the 240v to the 3 pin sockets and 12v to the 2 pin sockets from the battery and also charging battery at the same time.

Yep, that's how it works.

Sorry forgot to add that depending on the age of the camper the car/ van switch may have a midway, "central" position. In this positon the Power management unit sends 12v to the 12v sockets direct from the charger/transformer as long as the red switch is lit up cutting out the battery all together. But turn the red switch off with the car/ van switch in the midway position and the 12v sockets will go dead no power from battery or power managment unit.

But don't be fooled into thinking you can't leave home without going to a pitch with an EHU. We refuse to take a TV with us so we get away fro it all and  have found with a just a radio cd/cassette player, the campers own internal lights, a 16 inch 12v strip light for the awning and water pump drawing current we can happily manage a week without an EHU. But if you've blown air heating in your pullman that time might be reduced by the circulating fan
