Does anyone have any info or experience of Transcamper TT's.  I have had a brochure from Camperlands but they seem reluctant to tell me the prices!  I am very impressed by what I see and would like more info, but Manchester too far to just pop for a look.

Love this site, so friendly!

transcampers are a nice unit . a bit of a cross between a trailer tent and a folding camper . i had a 1999 transcamper and it was easier than the trailer tent i had to erect and with the table put in the centre of the cabin you could make another small bed up but you still have to have the kitchen in the awning area like a trailer tent. price wise i personaly think they are exspensive but then i always say you get what you pay for.

i've now got a folding camper and it is even easier to erect with the kitchen built inside the cabin which is nice so you don't need to put up the awning on a short stay and no peging out required unless using the awning.

i think you need to see a few units erected and have a good look at them before you decide on your final choice and ask yourself a question or two . how much room do you need? will i need to put up an awning for a weekend stay? how many people are going to sleep in it ?

food for thought.  i hope this helps you in your quest.

I have seen the Transcamper TT, not got one, but been inside one.  They are lovely, loads of space.  like Tracey says ask questions.  We have had a TT and now have a FC.  We find the FC more convienient as we do not need the awning .  It has everything in the unit and is easier to errect.  But remember a TT is a lot less money.  Ask the dealers as mny questions as you can, and try and see as many as you can before you decide.

We have had a Transcamper for years. Here's my quick review:

  • Very strong solid unit
  • Assemply involves winding down corner steadies, slotting legs into bed boards,  then flipping bed boards over. Finally crawl inside and pop up pole/canvas assembly
  • This basic set up gives you 2 VERY big beds and a small seating area, which needs NO PEGGING
  • You can then add a heavy duty frame (made up of just 3 tripod type assemblies) and to this you can either add just a porch canopy, or a full awning. Obv, both need pegging.
  • Takes longher to put up than we imagined, so I am half looking at pop ups, but none of the beds are as big as the Transcamper.

Hope this helps... PS are you interested in buying one?!?!?!?!?!

camperlands website used to say that their trascamper manufactuer has gone bust.

Their current website only shows a small picture of one but if you click on it it does not refer to transcampers.

So the reason they cannot quote a price for a new one is I guess that they cannot supply one.

Hi Tracey,

I have a lovely transcamper that I am looking to sell. It is in excellent condition with lots of extras and very solidly constructured. It has been used for 4 (2 week) trips in france. It has a hard top with luggage rack (good for bikes). I am very attached to it but we have bought a cottage to do up and i think I will be spending holidays there for the foreseeable future.

It is true that the dutch parent company Alpen Kruzer have gone bust and so you can no longer buy them new. They are much more solid than a normal trailer tent and are rightly described as being somewhere between a trailer tent and a folding camper. I am based in Manchester.
