I've been through all the threads so know the ins and outs of whether I should waterproof or not. In fact I've held off on last two holidays to see how it went, but on both I've had a small amount of water ingress and I've almost certain the canvas has been proofed before so I suspect it will get worse over the coming months and I've got at least two more holidays planned.

I'm therefore going to clean and reproof at the next sign of good weather however given the the cost of Fabsil I would prefer to try Thompsons Waterseal but looking at old threads it's confusing on whether this is still a viable choice e.g. it's not longer stated as suitable for canvas and I believe formula has changed. Is there any one who has reproofed recently who has used Thompsons to do the job and can vouch that it works? I've looked on B&Q site and can only see Ultra Clear Water Seal available.

Slightly different matter what have people found that is best to clean canvas? I assume Grangers is the product of choice or I've also seen mentioned soap flakes?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Focus still sell the old style thompsons in Hereford. I think you just have to look at the cans till you find one which mentions canvas.

Thanks Jan. I'm near Ross-on-Wye so I'll try the Focus there as well.

Anyone else have any information on Thompson Water Seal that doesn't have Canvas specified I'd appreciate it!

I can remember someone saying on the conway owners forum that they had contacted thompsons and were advised that the new version (ultra) was not recommended for canvas. I used the old version last year and it was available in all the diy stores i looked in

Hi,
I have been informed by a friend of mine(who is a painter and decorator)that from January 2010 all paints will be water based by law. That means even gloss paint which is oil based will be changed.
I'm just wondering if Thompsons/Fabsil etc have had to change their formula.
