Can anyone tell me if the Conway Crusader and the Pendeen Pathfinder both have Gas Assister Struts?
Can the Crusader and Pathfinder be retro-fitted with these struts

If you do a search in the Pennine Owners Club you will find a thread covering this. The area where the struts are fitted to the sides is reinforced, and while nothing is impossible (see some of the frightening threads on this site under 'Repairs')I wouldn't consider trying to retro-fit them, even with my DIY experiences and mechanical background.
TBH, the models without struts are fairly easy to operate - I have bad arthritis in my left shoulder and elbow and neck and I could (just) manage to swing the beds over on the Pathfinder we had on my own. As you have probably found in your research, the Crusader beds slide out and in, and while this may be easier than swinging the Pathfinder ones over, I have noted instances where these have stuck - heaven forbid this should be in rain when trying to put the thing away!!!
The gas struts appeared some time from 2001 I think - expert Jan P will be along to clarify!
Best of luck with your search - they are all nice units and amazingly spacious.
Pete

I know 1999 don't and 2002 do Pete. Being short I couldn't manage without. Lisa is the expert on dates though.

I have a 2004 pathfinder which has gas struts, folding out the camper is an absolute breeze and makes easy work of assembly and folding away.

Like what petemate said the camper is re inforced in these areas and i would check with a reputable dealer
