We've just moved from a folding camper to a caravan. Definately been in one BIG circle though. Camplet Trailer Tent-Conway Cruiser-Sprite Muskerteer-Avondale Leda Mendip-(then started all inclusive holidays abroad)-12 Man Dome Tent-8 Man Tunnel Tent-Trigano Randger 575LX & now a Bailey Ranger 550/6.
The reasons why we have gone back to a caravan is as follows:
1. Less hassle getting ready to go away (for the odd one nighter etc), as I can pack the caravan up during the daytime when OH & Kids are at work/school. As al I have to do is open the door and walk in, no having to errect it to pack it.
2. It does not need to be dried out if it gets wet (OK the awning may need to be, but that is no different than the awning on the FC)
3. Easier to break camp as well and a lot less hassle especially if it is raining.
4.Can be used all year round without any worries
5. A big positive for me is a toilet (I know many of you do have toilet compartments in your folding camper, but ours did not)
Againsts:
1. You have to make the beds up nightly (we have just bought a 6 berth van, it has fixed bunks that curtain off, so these don't have to be made every night). This only leaves us the double bed to be made up and on the odd occasion the side dinette bed area if my son wants to sleep in the van and not in his pup tent.
2. It's longer on the drive, but that's not a major problem as even with the folding camper on there we could not fit two cars on it.
3. Probably more money spent on site fees & diesel as we will be going away more often than what we did in the fc!!!
Having tried out tents, caravans & folding campers. I think we have made the right decision for our family.
If you are selling on EB I would go for a classified ad, as it is a one-off payment with no final valuation fee.
Good luck
