hello... after much conversing with the OH She, Not We. has realised that a Trailer Tent is the way to go..by march i reckon we could save £1000-£1200. can we buy a good one for that kind of money? can someone recommend where i can go look at second hand ones please?
i think i'd prefer a big tent but someone wants a bit of luxury....this also means i have a campingaz grill and some other bits which i will have to sell!!
thanks, Leon

You'll get a cracker for that - you're not far off brand new money there. Have a look at eBay for starters. Have you considered a folding camper? No pegging, so quicker to set up, & you can camp without the awning up for weekends as the kitchen is indoors. Try these.
Camperlands Is near you and they should have a good cross section of Trailer tents for you to look at I can't find any prices on their site though ( I do hate sites that don't put a price on products sorry rant over) Good hunting anyway
oh I forgot to ask, do i need to worry about the wind like i do choosing a site with a tent? (providing I don't go to shell island!)

Nothing wrong with a bit of luxury. £500 for my TT and it has been great. Came with an awning so even more luxury. Re the wind storm lashing kit costs about £15, I use it over the awning because the main trailer is secure enough. Starting in March invest in a small heater and thermal pj's
I would try and get one over the winter as prices should be cheaper, prices pick up again around easter. I agree that £1000 is plenty for a decent TT but you could stretch it a bit ang get a decent folding camper.
If you want luxury then I assume you want nice big beds with big thick mattresses. If so, you might want to look at TTs rather than FCs for your budget. Try Camperlands; you will find that Raclet, Trigano, Jamet and Combi-Camp make TTs with huge beds, and Camp-Let and Sunncamp only make TTs with smaller beds.
Traditionally Trigano are the luxury brand for French style TTs, Cabanon are the luxury brand for English style TTs (Yes I know they are French but their designs are warmed-over Conways), and Camp-Let are the luxury brand for Danish style. Go look at Camperlands and you will see what I mean!
I agree with Steve Mcv about looking for a folding camper ratehr than a TT, no pegging if you don't use the awning, alot quicker to set up and the kitchen is already in place.
You will get a good older camper for the money. Our first one was 15 years old and as sound as any new one, the decor left a bit to be desired but a change of curtains and some nice duvets covers & cushions and it was great.

Wind can be an issue, but as with a rigid frame tent (which is what they are, just on a trailer) the wind won't move them as much as say a tunnel or dome tent. We have camped in ours in really strong winds on very exposed sites. They do rattle a bit & I won't say it was a peaceful night, but our camper was still there in the morning. The tent campers & caravan awnings could not all make that claim.
Just got back from jr leisure in radcliffe, the OH fell in love with a nearly new crusader 600, (how the hell do those toilets fold down?), shame we don't have the other £5500 to buy it!!
Anyone know of a bank with a weak door?

hi we bought a 2005 trigano 2 years ago for 900 pounds and it was the best move we made.we went from a vango diablo 900 and the tt is so much easier and quicker to erect, even on windy days, the vango was a nightmare in poorer weather.we dont have a kitchen with ours,we use a kitchen fold up unit and a camp cooker the use site wash up facilities which are there to use anyway.not having a kitchen reduces the towing weight anyway.i think your oh has the right idea.good luck whatever you do.

Why not buy a real cheapy on ebay over the winter - you should be able to get an 80s waterproof tent for a couple of hundred quid - and you can see if you like it. You can usually buy in winter cheap and sell in the summer for a profit!
