Having brought a folding caravan, with thanks to Nicky my Sister in law, I seem to have a little problem (well a big one) I dont have a tow bar 17 yes you may say thats a bit stupid but hey thats me for you lol.

I have a Citreon C8 and Citreon have quoted me £500 for one to be fitted with wiring 17 does anyone know where I can get one done a lot cheaper. I live in Leicesterhire if that helps, ps I have rear parking sensors so they have told me I need a detatchable swan neck one.

I had mine fitted by Towequipe at the NEC show 2 years ago, they might be doing it again this year. I had a great day at the show while they fitted the tow bar and even after paying for the show tickets I saved over £200 compared with my local fitter!

Try looking at Indespension

I haven't used these guys, but I have heard that they'll do a decent job.

I used Hedley Towbars for my last two, alas not in your area, but I got the name from Yellow Pages.  Got the last two for aeround £200 each for a fixed flange type, though they are the cheapest.  Towsure do them for the C8 for around £340 including the detachable kit & electrics, by the time you add fitting, I'd think you could beat £500 by a fair bit.

All manufacturers will supply CE marked towbars that have to use existing mounting points so they don't interfere with car warranties.  The fitter will give a guarantee of their work.  If you need a detachable one, they are more expensive.  The firm I used fit them for car dealers as sub contractors.  A lot of dealers do this & simply add their cut on top.  There shouldn't be any issues with insurance as a towbar is an accessory rather than a modification, but it is wise to tell your insurance company you are getting one fitted.  It should not interfere with your premium.

Hi,

Ive had a detachable towbar fitted to a new c5 as i was told the parking sensors would be set off by a fixed bar, tested sensors with detachable in place and they do not pick it up, although it is a gamble having fixed one fitted just incase they do pick it up. mind you, you will save a fair amount of money and on the c5 you can switch sensors off on dashboard, dont know if c8 has the switch.
