Hi All. I want to put away my unit for the winter,We had our last outing last weekend and had to pack away wet as it chucked it down the day we packed away.needless to say that the camper is outside in the garden drying and then getting wet again until i get chance to put it away.my question is that when you close up the unit with its own cover.if it rains the water pools in places due to the positioning of the framework underneath, what can i do to stop this.i have a winter cover for the unit and i think that there must be a way to stop it pooling on top of that cover.all advise will be appreciated.thanks.Alex
Hi Camcroft. Try raising the jockey wheel so the unit has a slight slant and put a couple of plastic balls at the top to raise the cover a little off the unit. See how that goes
------------- Enjoy life whilst you can, it doesn't last for ever!!!!!!
Put a childs ball in the middle under the cover. In reality, the water will not cause any problems as long as the cover does not have any holes in. If stored outside, some choose to fit a tarp or an additional winter cover to keep the thing clean, but they aren't essential.
We made a ridged centre for out Pathfinder winter cover out of an 8 foot length of old skirting, with a ramp at both ends, so that the thing looks like a ridge roof garden shed. Everything runs off nicely.
A lot of people have said on here about raising the jockey wheel to gain run-off.
I found with my Cruiser that if I lowered it right down I got a better angle for run off and the nose was less likely to catch people out wandering by.
I lower the hitch so that there is a slope and also so that i can step over it easily as its in a tight spot, also chuck a big sweet jar under the cover to form a bit of a peak.
The reason for raising them at the front (except fiestas) is that the cover is fixed at the tow bar end and open at the back so any condensation runs out rather than pooling at the front. Not quite sure which is the fixed bit of the transit cover on a fiesta.
