Recently got the use of a trailer tent and have used it in the cotswalds at a lovely site!!

But if i tried to book at a site that is tent only- it is a tent but some class as caravan!

So what defines it?

According to wikipedia  "A tent is a shelter consisting of sheets of fabric or other material draped over or attached to a frame of poles or attached to a supporting rope"

Cannot find a decent definition for caravan but of course caravans have existed for thousands of years originally a collection of travellers moving together. A possible definition could be a habitation unit with wheels and suitable for towing. Some may be towed to a semi permanent site.

I would say you have a caravan - unless it suits you better to have a tent in which case its a tent!

I think i would be honest and tell the site what you have got as i would not want to turn up on a busy day to be turned away and have to start looking for another site.

They will have come across this many times before and its whatever the site in question defines it as

Most trailer tents are more like tents as the trailer is usually only small compared to the canvas area.

"Any unit with rigid sides" - C&CC's definition of a caravan.

I'd follow Andy and Lynda's advice.

Whatever is cheapest!.  Caravan pitches are often better than tent ones so do sometimes cost more.  Beware of hard standing though.  some sites will only accept caravans, motorhomes or folding campers because the pitches are tarmac or concrete so you won't get pegs in.  tell the site what your unit is when you book.

Just be honest and say it's a trailer tent - that's what I used to do and never encountered any problems.
