Hi All,

We are thinking of buying a folding camper and we are going to see a 20 year old Conway Cruiser today. Just wondering how long these campers keep going for?? The camper has had a new canvas a couple of years ago and was wondering about the trailer/chassis etc, should i look for anything in particular when i go and see it??

Thanks

just make sure the trailer/chassis are in good working order with no serious rust problems.  If it's been well looked after and you continue to look after it you'll get many good years out of it

I've seen a couple of 20 year old pennines and its the colour of the canvas that gives the age away not the condition. A lot of "standard" things weren't then like modern water pump, mains electric, the fridge will be "old" , mattresses and curtains may need renewing so make sure it really is a good buy compared to a 2000 one.

dont be put off by the age,we have a 92 conway canterbury which is in super condition.

the thing to look at is the condition of the unit,in particular the canvas, make sure it has no tears or rips, make sure the poles are all there, that all the zips work, check for mildew on the canvas. On the base unit, check the bedding boards, check the axle, and wheel bearings.make sure any electrics work

make sure the seller puts it up fully, awnings and all, make sure the cooker works.if you are not sure, walk away, there are plenty out there.

Thanks for the advice, well we took the plunge and purchased the Conway cruiser. We checked it over thoroughly and it looked in great condition, the canvas didnt have a mark on it and although the inside was a bit dated it thought it could be a bit of a project - updating the curtains etc. So once again thanks for the advice and roll on the warmer weather.

Old campers can go on for years, as long as you look after it.  Keep the road salt off it - especially the Aluminium bits!  Happy camping.

Steve.

Congratulations! Some friends of ours bought a 1985 pennine last April and it was perfect throughout last season. Campers at that age that have been looked after are an absolute bargain : )
