Hi, please help with a problem we are going to have this summer. We bought a second hand (quite old ERKA) trailer tent last year, which was great, used 3 times. We plan to use 4 or 5 times this spring/summer/autumn.
The problem is last year our daughter was less than one year old. This summer she will be eighteen months plus and can now walk/climb/run generally rocket around wherever she likes. Last year she was safe wrapped up in the bedroom, this year she will definitely fall/jump out. Does anyone have any suggestions, I have considered buying some netting and making an enclosure (doesn't sound too good) but don't know where to get it from or the best way of adapting it. I'd really appreciate any help, thank you.
We used one of those travel pop up cots. Sounds a baby thing, but it's a pop up thing which can be zipped up. We used this up until our youngest was approaching two, then this year straight into a small sleeping bag. Mum slept on one side with one, I slept on the other side with our 4 year old.
We have a pop up travel cot which was great last year but I think she is too big for it now. We thought of taking our normal travel cot but it would have to go on the floor in the awning as it would be too high in a bedroom. Just one to think on.
How far is it to fall off the bed? My son camped his first 2 years sleeping in tents on an airbed, then we got the Dandy. The bed is about 30 cm off the floor. I think I can remember him falling out once. I don't remember him waking up. You can get a single cot side to go on one edge of the bed if you are worried that much
When our two were small, we found a bunk guard from a caravan spares shop did the trick. only cost a few quid. they just slid under the mattress and folded up to stop restless sleepers tumbling out. OR try insect netting held in place between the poles with curtain wires, soft yet strong enough .
Thanks everyone for the advice. It seems like a simple problem and we are probably panic-ing, imagining scenarios that won't happen. I got some reasonable priced insect netting from these guys.

We are going to set up the tent for a night before the season in a local field, make any repairs and sort this one out, ie check if the travel cot fits anywhere and fit the insect netting anyway.
We can just about squeeze a Graco travel cot into the floor space of our Fiesta. It leaves enough room to squeeze around the side to get into bed or to get to the kitchen at the front. As soon as little 'un is up the cot is taken down. It also means that we spend most of the evening in the awning. I can't be sure but you may find you have less cabin space in your TT than we have in the FC and a travel cot may cause you problems. It won't be long before she is ready for the normal bed and we thought about a bed guard to keep her in but you might also be interested in this.
