Hi guys we have camped in a tent for a number of years but now I feel it is time to upgrade to a trailer tent (age and comfort springs to mind!).  I have my eye on a Cabanon Stratos but the other half has put doubts in my mind. Firstly the initial cost, will we use it enough, will we need to insure it.  So please could you set my mind at ease and tell me it is the right decision.

Try second hand first, that way you will find out what works well for you before shedding a load of dosh.

Hi
You will not look back in buying a TT off the ground sleeping better beds,As Glamper Granny said look at some tidy second hand one's first try and get one with awning, better for sitting out then stuck in the cab part, have a look at Ebay as to what sort that would suit you ,most can be towed by a small car, just like a tent check for rot in the canvas etc if they have been patched not a problem if its been done well.most older one will have mine was as i court the canvas in the poles when folding it, You should be able to pick a nice and tidy one for less than a grand.
Hope this is some help to you

We just picked up an 4 year old immaculate cabanon for less than £1000.  We felt it was the best way to go and once we had tried the beds we knew we had done the right thing!!

We insured ours as it was a big outlay and it cost us £50 per year. Well worth it I think.

Go round some shops and try some

we were the same 5 years ago, had a tent and oh got a bad back so needed to upgrade.  Went for cabanon venus 2 berth with awning, ample room for the two of us.  We decided to purchase the tall annexe extension to give us more room 3 yearsago.  We are now selling it to get a small caravan.  Not sure if you need more than 2 berth but we will be advertising it shortly and its in v good condition.  Was sceptical on upgrading to start with but havent looked back.  We get lots of people ask to look around when on campsites as there arent many two berths around, they are always surprised at the space.  With the annexe we have used it for sleeping space and purchased a universal inner tent, it's adequate for children to sleep in.

If you can afford an fc, have one. They have the most advantages and least disadvantages of all the camping accomodation options and are also relatively in expensive.

We also found we made the smallest loss when we we finaly had to give up camping and sold it.

We got a trailer tent so that Richard could sleep off the floor.    First one we got the kitchen unit was too heavy for me to lift solo, so I could not take the kids on my own with it, and have Richard join us part way through a break.    Sold that and got a different one - which I could, and where as the unit without the awning was fine for just the kids and me, no use if Richard joined us.     About 19 months ago, we knew somebody who was looking for a TT,so we sold it, and about the same time managed to pick up a bargain FC in Ebay - it really was a good move,   Living space without the need for an awning - the other year when we went away the weather was dreadful, so we spent most of the time in the main body of the camper.
Where as the TT slept 4 in the main body the camper sleeps 6 as the table converts to a double bed - we have got the putting it up/down, down to a fine art.

Can be set up without the awning, and kettle on within 15 minutes.
Our is easy to tow - although my current car won't tow it, my other car could.  But if I was just the kids and me, I would take a tent where Richard could sleep in an airbed.   As I now have a small car, and would need to tow, it is as easy to take a slightly larger tent, than a small one, which would not fit a camp bed in.
We love ours.   Best thing we did was swapping.

OK we would love a newer bigger one, but for now the one we've got is
