Obviously the supplied one fits perfectly. Why do you need a lighter one? Anything that you do consider may not fit the apex that you have on the camper. This will lead to reduced roof height on the side away from the camper (rain run off), or awning corners sitting above the camper roof. Either way the supplied one will fit best with the poles that it is designed to carry it.

However having one myself, the awning is heavy and can be difficult to attach.

I did see one Dandy advertised when we were looking to buy ours that had an Argos cheap awning attached. Looking at it, I could foresee all the problems that I have explained above. The other main problem was that it cut down on the awning space that the original gives you. Due to the slope of the Dandy roof, you may not get anything as long as what you already have, as the awning corners would be higher than the Dandy roof.

Just my opinion! Hope it helps.

Dave.

We have a 1995 destiny, not sure if the roof line is the same as the 1992. We studied the lightweight awnings on offer to fit the main body of the unit. Having seen the sunncamp 260 fits between the 3 main roof-ties(ropes) we decided that we needed a porch awning no wider than 260cms. We have the original sun-canopy and having tried it we then put it in the back of the shed as a non-starter. Which means we have no need for access to the inner brackets for the pole hooks, with this in mind we have attached 2 pieces of aluminium awning rail to the metal box section frame  on the rigid side, leaving a slight gap in the centre. We then came across the new sunncamp paramount 260 porch awning new for 2010, it has a projection overall of 340cms,as it has an extra section to sit out in, we decided that the space overall is comparable to the dorema highlander 2 drive-away which we have also used with the destiny(rather heavy). We have tried this new awning on the unit and it fits very well ,so take a look, can e/mail you pictures tonymoxon at msn.com hope this is useful.

If you have a bit of cash to splash, go to Tent Valeting Services - they can make you an awning which fits your existing awning frame - i.e. just like the pvc one but made out of canvas or acrylic or both.
