I think you can leave it behind, yes!

Your kitchen swings out, doesn't it? Doesn't it unhook off the back, leaving the lights and numberplate on a separate door? If so, you can quite happily unhook the kitchen and leave it behind.

Have removed the kitchen from my Comanche, too heavy for me to lift. My 4 drawer tower travels in the tray instead(in the prone position). I have not noticed any difference to stability.
