We're about to become owners of a 2006 Trigano Randger 415 DL folding camper barring any problems with the inspection & collection trip in which case we may have to walk...

For the moment however, and remaining full of confidence, our thoughts are turning to insurance.

Does anyone know where we can go to get cover in Ireland or any UK company who cover Ireland?

I tried the brokers I have my car insured with and it was like I was describing some completely new invention which had never been heard of previously (I had visions of the first ever explanations of the aeroplane or somesuch ). I eventually got a quote based on it being a "touring caravan" which I'm not sure about? Anyone know if this is the same thing? The quote itself was ok but I'm not sure if we were on the same page at all.

I'm going to need to get this sorted asap (trip to UK is on Friday) so any suggestions are welcome.

Hi are you looking for insurance so you are covered if you have an accident. If you are if you tell your insurance company you are already insured with that you are pulling a trailer you will be covered.
If you are looking for insurance against fire and theft your insurance company should also cover you as long as the trailer is attached to your car when something happens, as long as they know that you are pulling a trailer.

I'm already aware that I'll be covered when towing by my car policy (though it does drop from comprehensive to third party when towing).

I'm more bothered about when it's not in use sitting at the side of the house where, let's face it, it will be for the majority of the year. It will be behind a locked gate with a hitchlock on in an area which is very safe. There's always the possibility of damage to consider too.

This morning I've gotten a call from my insurance broker to say they can issue a policy for it so I'm just gonna go ahead this time around I think.

Hi there

We had the same problem insuring our Trigano Chantilly and eventually got it covered under the all Risks section of our house policy, giving us cover for loss, damage or theft within the E.U. plus automatic worldwide cover for 60 days per year.

Like you say you're covered when it's attached to your car so our concern was something happening to it outsede the house or on a campsite

It added about €200 to our policy
