My tyres need replacing before the epic journey to Italy in July. Re-paited the steel rims a couple of years ago, but the metal worm is back again so I fancy some new (ish) wheel rims. I think my spare is an old 10" one off a Mini. Don't think 12" ones would go, but would 10" Mini alloys fit a Dandy Designer? Specifically, the PCD of the studs, the boss in the middle & most important the offset - will the tyre rub on the inside of the frame?
If it helps I replaced (with no problems) the original 10" mini wheels on my 1986 Destiny with 12" steel mini wheels (not alloys but these are a straight swap on a mini).
I have previously messed about a bit with mini's and as far as I know the only difference between the 10's and the 12's was the need for more space in the rim to fit the later disk brakes in. The outside diameters are kept the same by fitting lower profile tyres.
Hello Steve, hope i am doing this correctly. I fitted some 10" alloys to our '84 Dandy withy 165/70 x 10 tyres. The wheels were from one of our previous Mini's. No problem at with stud spacing or offset and it ran a lot smoother with the slightly wider tyres. However, the boss hole in the centre was very, very tight. A bit of time with some emery paper, and several cups of tea, made them fit, but they were still, shall we say, 'snug'. have not looked at putting them on the Delta yet as it came with nearly new 8 ply tyres fitted.
Finally given up on the Alloys for the Dandy. Bought new tyres for the old rims instead. Hole in the centre is too small on the alloys as sogc said, but it is more than filing or emery paper would take out. Used to have access to a good sized lathe, but not any more. Also the rim is quite a bit wider so I was worried about clearance for the tyres in the wheel arches & against the frame. I am keeping the rims though, as they will fit my next object of desire...
