Our Pathfinder, which is barely 3 years old, requires two new tyres as present ones are cracking badly, a bit gutted as there is stacks of tread on them.

My question is, who uses winter wheels and takes the campers wheels indoors or does anyone use axle stands to support the camper and leave the wheels on.

Sorry I know that's two questions

Mine goes indoors for storage.  I need new wheels, but the old ones are over 5 years old.  For the bizarre reason that your unit cannot be moved with them on, your insurance will be invalid (most policies) with winter wheels fitted.  Check your small print.

Excuse my ignorance, but what difference does keeping it indoors make if it's still sitting on it's tyres, do they not crack when inside.

Re insurance, are we then saying that if we lift it off the ground, with wheels on, and l have the wheel clamp on, everything will be tickety boo.

As said above, it is exposure to daylight that does the damage to the rubber.  Does anyone take their car wheels off when parked?  Tyres shoud be changed after about 5 years even if there is no obvious cracking or excessive wear.  The suspension can benefit from having the weight taken off it by jacking the camper up.  Most campers use rubber suspension & this sags over time.  Cost me about £300 for new Indespension units about 3 years ago.

I take my wheels off over winter and put on 2 wheels I got from my local scrapyard.To get the right wheels I took may spare with me for comparison. £10 wasn't a bad price to pay I can still move my camper if need be.Would be a bit scared if there was a fire if it was jacked up with no wheels,or on those winter wheels..I store my road wheels in the shed wrapped in a blanket and let the pressure down to around half

...I've often wondered if  there'd be any benefit in jacking up the rear of our Mh and letting the suspension relax a little?...

...after all,most Mhs are pretty much fully laden for most of the time,unlike when the base vehicle is used as a commercial,when at least it gets unloaded as the working day goes on!...

Seems a bit strange that a TT isn't insured if the wheels are off though?
