Sorry to disagree but TTs are counted as tents for the purposes of standard groundsheets, unlike FCs which are regarded more as caravans and thus are more likely to be required to have breathable groundsheets.
Thanks. we had a plastic tarpaulin down but there was heavy rain and the rain came in. we had a breathable sheet in our awning when we had a caravan so might get one of those

Sorry Val, did not realise. So why do I have to have one, but a TT doesn't? I thought it was to keep the grass in good condition?
Because trailer tents are tents....and a FC is basically half a caravan when all is said and done. You've got sleeping, cooking and living space in the FC unit and the awning is an optional add on. It's not impossible to live in just the cabin of a TT but generally speaking, the TT awning is still regarded as your main living space and thus you need it to be waterproof underfoot.

Why did the rain come in? Generally speaking if you have your storm flaps tucked well under the groundsheet then it's impossible for the rain to drive under the flysheet onto the groundsheet. Even with the rarer system where the flaps peg outside the tent it's not usual to get water under the flysheet.
Our TT has flaps that peg outwards but i just assumed it controlled the rain to run away from the base of the tent?? RE groundsheet i use a large tarpaulin roughly 6 inches too big all round so it makes a shower tray shape then lay my tent carpet on top.
Waterproof and cosy

Depends on your TT design. Some go outwards, others go inside. You can usually tell by whether they're split at the poles or not and any pegging points present, if in doubt. Conway TTs all had stormflaps that went inwards.
