Just purchased a new 400 s, having read many comments from the members here, trial and error seems to be the main thing in putting up the awning SO plenty of practice before we go away in August.

Any further advice would be welcome especially regarding ground sheets, should i just buy a groundsheet from ebay and cut it to size, should i put the flaps on the inside and should i put the groundsheet on the inside with the sides turned up etc...question questions..appologies for this but a newbie is all i am..

Cheers

the flaps go on the inside of the tent and then you lay the ground sheet ontop of them

Hi, I've just taken ownership of a 400se and need to get a groundsheet for it.

Can you recommend a good groundsheet? Do you get a 400x600 and cut it to size?

Is carpet better? Does it need to go on top of a groundsheet ?

Any words of advice welcome

Paul

We had a breathable groundsheet in our Fiesta awning, the type with holes in. We found to our cost one rainy day on Anglesey that if it's been raining and you walk on a breathable groundsheet, all the mud comes up through it. We never did manage to get it properly clean.

Now we have a cheap groundsheet folded to fit (one of this spring's jobs is to cut and hem it to size and put some eyelets in to save at least half an hour when pitching) and then we have Carpetina (another type of breathable but more closely woven) on top. Defeats the object of a breathable groundsheet but it came with the camper so we will use it.

The cheap tarps (the blue woven types) will allow water through if you stand a weight, or kneel on them so if I was not having a carpet I would try and get one of the PU ones (like a polythene) but I can't help with sizes sorry.

Hi we had the 400 and once we had the cabin up we put down breathable groundsheet to keep the awning off the mud and clean while we put it up.  Once the awning was up the flaps folded underneath the breathable groundsheet and then we put tarpaulin on the top.  The advantage of this was that under the wardrobe/toilet and kitchen only breathable was there and then if the waste from the kitchen or the blue toilet fluid leaked out of the flusher plunger (like ours does) it isn't running all over your groundsheet it soaks through the breathable groundsheet.

We did find the 400 to much to put up for a weekend but we solved this by buying a 240 awning and poles as the cabin is the same for all the models.  My other half in the end made me sell my beloved trailer tent but I still have the 240 awning and poles in blue.  I have it listed in the for sale section if you're interested.

Hope this helps at all

Sally

I used to own a Sunncamp 400se so the the attached may help with erecting as I believe they both have the same awning. You will need the pole diagram:

1. Set up the cabin and fully peg it out.

2. Zip the awning to the cabin and throw it over the cabin.

3. Erect all the frame poles up to number 10 i.e. half the awning frame.

4. Pull the awning canvas over the frame poles and then throw the remaining canvas back over the frame poles leaving the lip of the canvas hanging over the end of the frame poles before connecting the remaining awning frame poles.

5. Erect the remaining awning frame poles and pull the canvas over so the whole awning frame is covered.

6. Put in the 3 little end poles and tension poles 11 on the awning frame poles.

7. Erect the kitchen frame poles and hold in place why someone secures the guy
ropes to the 2 spikes that pop through the roof.

8. Peg the front corners of the awning then fully peg the awning.

You only need pole 14 when erecting. You can remove it if you don`t want the door set as a half or full porch entrance. You should have pole 26 left over after fully erecting, which has a nylon "U" clip on one end. That pole fits in the middle of pole 8, (hole in roof lining shows where it goes). It is used if it gets too windy.

Pole 25 is the coat rail which goes on pole 8 and 17 on the left of the kitchen annex as you look at it.

Hope it helps.

Griff
