Hi all.  A couple of the plastic tongues on my window catches have broken so I need replacements or ideas for fitting home-made items.  Am using the metal springy handle parts of the catches to hold window closed meanwhile.    Anyone out there breaking a confort/record/export with them......early 80s ....believe they all had same method whereas later ones had proper handles.

Hi Dennis I think trying to find those would be quite difficult these days. Have you any pictures you could post so we could come up with some ideas? I had a Record-Matic with the type of catches I think it was a 1985. The Export I have is 1980 & has proper catches.

Putting it up tomorow for pre Le Mans trip inspection so will try and remember to take photo and see how much room available with top folded down.  However I seem to remember that I could not work out how to put pictures on this forum!

Here goes with photos on Flickr

Record window catch broken002 this shows plastic tongue holding window shut.

Record window catch broken001 This shows tongue broken off (also one screw missing).

Catches need to be very thin to avoid digging into folded down side panel.

Wow copy and paste worked.

I'm not sure how you are going to fix the one you have due to the plastic the centre of the catch appears by what I can tell in the picture is riveted. You could try drilling out the rivet & making a catch from steel. The catches that were on eBay a while back by the looks of it would've fitted with 2 screws at the same points in your window frame.

The one's on mine don't protrude much & don't seem to catch anywhere when it's folded. You could try to contact the guy who had them on ebay & see if he's still got them. The link is still on the rapidocaravan club site. There's also a guy selling an Export-Matic chassis on eBay you could contact him & see if he has any other bits left on it as the Matic catches seem to be the same.

Like the pictures & the motor hope you have a great time in Le Mans

Tich

The ebay catches look too deep and would foul the pannel underneath when folded.

Have sent a message to chassis seller.

Now me being impish.....the drawings under your signature...guess that is the garage for your Saab 95se2CV.(well it does say export).....and you sleep under the blue cover?!?

Hope you get a response from that seller it's just frustrating as I had a Record-Matic I broke for spares late last year & it had those very same catches.

As for a garage for my saab lol I can't see a 2CV lugging all that. As for sleeping under the blue cover it's as old as the caravan & it stinks so er no thanks

I've just put a post in our forum about the window catch & see if anyone has any ideas on how to fix it.

I have posted this on the Rapido forum as well but if the part you are trying to repair is all plastic (forget about the part the plastic is attached to), you could try using Plastex to rebuild the broken part (assuming you either have the piece that broke off OR have another catch that you can use as a mold)Plastex
I have used this in the past and although there is a little bit of a learning curve with it it works really well.
