It's a drive but Caseys outdoor at Cheshire are worth a visit just ot help you focus.  We went there to look at trailer tents earlier this year and came back determinded to buy a FC.  They had a crusader there that we wanted but when we rang to put down a deposit it had already gone. They do have lots on dispay though and the sales are not too pushy but will talk you through all features.

 Got a pathfinder off ebay in the end but we were lucky.  It was being sold in our local town, we could see it up on the drive and the seller took lots of time to talk us through the many features.  It was easy to see that this was a much loved pathfinder.  Nornally I would be a little wary of spending that much money on ebay but someone who goes to great lenghts to explain all bits clearly cares. 

In terms of what to look for, first you must see it up, or at least the main unit if space not allowing the rest.   For us a key indicator was the fact that it was very clean and tidy which to us means it has been looked after.  If you can see things like the fridge working and running water it helps, though it is quite easy and cheap to fix things like the toilet flush (we had to replace the flushing motor thing)  but the fridge would be another thing altogether.   Check the canvas for the usual damp issues of course and look under the body at the chassis (!) for rust, damage etc.  Check tyres for signs of wear and or damage including the spare. 

If buying private the key really is being able to see it up, do not buy otherwise, more will come along after all.
