I have a late 06 model we have had from new (picked up Jan 07) - This doesn't have the gas struts. I put up/down regularly on my own with 2 daughters 12,11 Yrs When putting down at the stage of lowering canvas (ie arms released back in) I get my girls to SLOWlY lower the canvas, I'm on outside making sure the folds all in OK. When we have put the lid over, it rarely meets up, usually not far enough over, my daughter balances on the back base (ie feet in/on the main sleeping section) and pulls on the rack always works.
On putting up must admit I never attach the storage bag to the lid as I find that my bags n stuff fill it out. Also when first put up/down I put/leave a peg in very front by door in case of wind so its the first & last one - we had a flip back once!!
Think these are the main differences that I do - You will find you own after a while, the up is so quick! Its the filling with your gear that takes the time :O)
Did you remove the last 3 - 4 wooden slats under the mattress? If you've got them that is? We have cut through the rubber binding and remove these, putting them ontop of the mattress, clear of where the kitchen goes. It makes it much easier to stow the kitchen with them removed.
Jojo,if your gas strut is ok,it should be effortless,so maybe it needs regassing. Also,G&T is reserved for Holtkamper owners,We second class types are on vodka.
Ps.What is a helper?

Stuart all those things happen in quick succession before step 1, when you try to level the thing!
We never found it effortless, and we don't find the new one effortless either, but its akward rather than heavy.
We peg the corner guys (with delta pegs) rather than the front of the canvas. This outing (Jametic not Camplet) the guys held firm, and it didn't flip back, but as fast as we put pegs in the canvas they pulled out. I'm still drinking.....
Well that is me stuffed i dont do G&T or Vodka I only drink Whisky so will have to sell both my Camp-let's now and just use my Combicamp anyone want to buy a Camplet about 1986
