Hello,

We have a 1991 Camplet Royal which has a built-in fridge, but we've not used it yet. At the side of the fridge there are two holes and a push-pull switch. I'm assuming that the switch turns the fridge on and off and that one of the holes is a 12v take-off. The other hole appears to be just that, a hole.

How do you power the fridge if you don't want to keep the car attached? If we have a mains->12vdc converter which ends in a cigar socket, can I have a double-ended cigar plug and plug that in to the take-off hole to power the fridge?

Hi I would ask the guys at camperlands (google them). We used to have a camplet and the guys there really know their products.

Hi Dazz,

I bought 12V plugs like this and joined them together positive to positive and negative to negative.

Not sure what the current ratings are but this worked ok for us for the three days that we were away.

Went to Maplins and got hold of 2 plugs and spliced them together but not too happy with my handy work so I searched the net again and found this..

So I ordered it and it arrived this morning now I'm using my 12v power station connected to the cable then to the fridge to see if this works..

Ah thanks for jogging my bad memory.. No it didn't work.. I put it down to the power station I'm using as it's a bit knackered anyway ;-)

Ooh! I'm interested in how you get on with that, I borrowed something similar off a mate last summer and all the damned smoke got out after a couple of days.

I've got to get him a replacement before this season gets properly under way and I obviously have to get one for myself too.

Well that will teach me to go the cheep route...
The plug arrived this morning..

And as soon as I plugged it it I blew the house fuse

Oh well off to Halfords I suppose to get a better more expensive proper one.

Well just plugged in the Halfords transformer and nothing so I'm stumped on how to check the fridge actually works, fuses etc..
Any suggestions??

Do you have any other items that you can try in the socket, iPod/iPad car charger perhaps?

My fridge is near silent, how long did you leave it for?

You did pull out the push/pull on/off switch didn't you?

Oh, through the hole in the plate (as shown above) there's a switch to change from cold to hot, and there should be a light in there (sorry, can't remember what colour it is); what do you see?

Hi BarryS,
The power adaptor is working fine from the mains, little green light comes on and I've plugged in a light and that works fine.

Just realised that as I was looking at the back of the fridge, 'cos I took it out of the unit to be nosey, saw a fan in the back thought that it must run when the fridge is on? so I just unplugged it. Have now reconnected it again and will leave it for an hour...

This is all the sockets and switches I have.

The problem seems to be the fan motor so I've ordered another to replace it..
