Hello. Anyone had to repair the canvas on a Cabanon? Ours as worn through on the edge. Just wondered what our options were.

On the edge of what? Just down at the bottom of the flysheet.? If so put a piece of pre-shrunk cotton webbing tape on the reverse and machine sew it through all the layers, on both edges of the tape. Use a good strong machine needle like one made for sewing denim and rot proof cotton or strong polyester thread.

No its above head on the corner of the main compartment. Only noticed it last time we put it away. Can only put it down to the tubular frame rubbing on the canvas. Been really windy last twicw we have used her.

Well that's more difficult. It's easy enough to patch cotton canvas per se...the difficult bit is reaching the damaged area with a normal domestic sewing machine. I don't suppose you've got access to a long arm industrial sewing machine  by any chance? Our local arts and crafts centre has one for the upholstery students and I'm allowed to go in and use it. General method is to patch inside and out, inner patch first, slightly smaller than the outside one. You can get tent canvas from a number of camping suppliers or if you only need a small amount, sometimes your peg or pole bag will be made out of canvas oddments that match your tent.

If you can't find an industrial sewing machine though, there are many companies that will repair canvas tents and it's not as expensive as you might think. Ask at the local camping shop for local repairers. Incidentally if you think the other corners might go too it's worth reinforcing them with canvas patches on the inside, stuck on with PVA fabric glue like Copydex.

I think the damage is caused by the metal clips for the bed pods we fasten them onto the side poles and not on top

Weelllll....I've always clipped up my bed pods onto the top pole and as far as I know so did the previous owner, who was a friend. No damage so far and my TT is 21 years old. However there's definately a right and a wrong way round for the hooks...you have to ensure the little protruding lip at the end of the hook is facing into the cabin, not into the canvas. The right way round actually looks wrong at the moment of hanging btw...it's only when you pull the cabin inner round into place and the hook rotates that the lip ends up in the right place.

We found that happened to our, so took it back to don vally tent place in doncaster, where we bought it from, they ended up sending it back to france to have it replaced, because the material that they kept sending was a different colour to what was on it, they sent 3 lots!! when it finally got back they gave us plastic clips because they said it was the metal ones that had caused the damage!! no cost to us i might add, (thank god!!)  Tricia
