My mum is getting the camping bug and has been borrowing my old copies of "Camping" and all the caravanning magazines.

She is turning towards getting a TT but has a few specific requirements:
* must be easy enough for a 4' 11" retired lady to pitch solo
* light enough to be towed behind a small car (1 litre engine)
* 2 berth
* as cheap as possible!

We had a Cabanon Mistral TT but sold it because I couldn't set it up on my own.
I have suggested she look at older Camplet and Combi Camp TTs?

Can anyone help?

The first thing to do is find out what weight her car can tow. I expect a Combi Camp will be the best solution because the weight of the rack helps you to erect the cabin. Only the newer Camplets have the gas struts to help. Some of the Comanche models might be worth a look as well.

I've just bought a mid to late 80's Combi Camp Easy.  I can move it about easily by myself.  My OH thinks your mums car should be ok pulling a CC but you have to remember there will be additional weight in the car with the equipment etc. which can soon add up if you're not careful!

As to putting it up, I really would suggest you find someone with a CC so your mum can have a go at putting it up - shame you don't live nearer me.  Her height might be against her but then I might be wrong!  I find mine fine to put up by myself (I'm 5'7" and not near retiring age!) but it does require some effort when putting away, especially when first lifting the floor up and over onto the trailer.  I'm sure someone on site would help your mum though.

Cost, now these units can be a bit like hens teeth to find and often go for a fair amount of money (beware of some of the CCs on flea bay!).  Also you may find you have to travel to get one.  I was really lucky with my CC it was only 25 miles away and I paid £225 for it and it came with a brand new utility tent, gazebo and new cooker.  I thought this some bargain as it's in great condition for its age!  It did once have an awning to make it twice the size but the previous owners binned it as they found it too difficult to put up - such a shame.
