Has anyone else had problems with the plastic bayonet connectors on pennine awnings 2000 onwards, we have a 2005 pennine on which the lugs on the connectors broke off, we purchased a new set of 3 at £2.50 each, after only two weeks the new set as also broke,I think the old method of the old metal buttons was much better.
Yes as we found to our cost - if you twist them once the wrong way that's it you are going to need a new set - we have switched to an older Pullman now with the old fashioned hook and button system which is a lot more robust
Hi we had a 2005 Fiesta - we now have a 97 Pullman - you can get the connectors on ebay and at most caravan places (they are used on the Isabella awnings) not sure about the price but £2.50 sounds about right.[ kev tells me caseys chester 2.50 each last year]
Yes we got them from a caravan dealer while on hols in bridlington, they told us they were same as isabella.we just took the old one along for comparison because there are two different diameters.
When I E.mailed pennine to ask why they changed over to the plastic connectors they sent me this E.mail.. We are sorry to hear that you have encountered problems. However, all other major caravan awning manufacturers have used this method for many years without any major problems. Unfortunately there is no way to convert to the ‘old’ manufacturing method.
this kind of fob off is getting more common or i am getting more cynical as i get older ,our year 2000 had the button type frame very strong and able to take wear and tear and knocks ,our 2008 type used on new ones are a joke , and pennine should be ashamed at the quality , and if they have confidence in these cost saving methods (which what ever they say is the real answer ) give a 5year no quibble warranty on there frames , to be honest i am getting a bit disillusioned with the premium prices they are now charging for poor cost cutting quality , lack of competition on a superb bit of kit is allowing this .
We are thinking of reverting back to an older model pre 2001 as this is when pennine say they changed to the new style connectors, Its a shame when you have to do that because we love the camper but If we are going to have to keep buying new parts it is going to be expensive,

Until relatively recently, I worked in the manufacturing sector.
It's not a "fob off", the cost of making almost anything in the Western world is such that no one does it any more and all component manufacture is now done in the far East.
As a result, everyone is hostage to what can be stamped out in the billion over there and shipped to here at a reasonable price - even if you're prepared to pay over the odds, there are no small engineering firms around that can do small volume production any more so unless your "over the odds" is to pay military budgets for things, you just have to make do with what you can get.
This connection IS rubbish, it affords NO flexibility when erecting, I am trying to find a solution....I was considering drilling through the two fixings and pushing a pin through. Our other problem, we have no instructions for the awning (2009) in our conway pack..are there any.
Another minor point on this 2009 Cruiser, there are no points for fixing guy ropes. My 2004 model had about ten points to attached. Is this OK
Can't remember if our 2005 sterling had guy line fixing points or not but this 99 fiesta has at LEAST 4 on unit and 4 on awning,if you feel you want fixing points perhaps try These ,although when you spend large amounts of cash on a unit you shouldn't have to.

There may be an alternative. I was trying to replace the same thing on my TT awning and Camping and General suggested a generic spare part which is a metal clip, with a sort of V-shaped tail which you push into the pole. The V then holds it in place. Not sure if it would work for you, but worth mentioning.
we lost the feet from our fiber glass awning poles and I managed to buy new ones yesterday but they were far more expensive than standard. Partly due to size but also due to the fact that only isabella seemed to make them! At £2.79 for each one compared to about the for 4 and I had to go to three different caravan shops to find them! Poles and hooks ok so far though.
