We recently purchased a 1980's Pullman which although usable is in need of some update and repair work, both structural and cosmetic so I have started a blog today to post the progress, updates will be posted as we do the work, it's a bit of a first for us "blogging" but we have undertaken lost cause's before with success.
As mentioned we will only be passing out the repair/remake of the canvas and already have had some very varied quotes for this from £550.00 for a repair up to £1500.00 for a remake, with some quotes in between, a lot yes but worth it as we intend to keep the camper for a while.
will follow with intrest one thing you should get alot longer than ten years from new canvas if used in normal way.
i got a 91 cruiser a couple of months ago and the only part of canvas to need replacing was the roof on main cabin rest was all good.A new roof from tvs was 350 and they did a great job.I also had the zip added for a bed skirt at the same time that was 125 but well worth it.
Hello,
Nice to see a fellow DIYer having a go. Are the walls in good shape?
I bought a 1998 Conway Crusader end of July via ebay for £1200. About £1000 less than the others I had seen for the same year. The walls were in bad shape, plywood rotton with damp, but everything else was in good working order. The canvas was good for the year and the awning was in 'new' condition. I reproofed the camper canvas and we tested it out at August bank holiday weekend. Plenty rain, no problems. Over September ( I am an O.A.P with time on my hands) I replaced both the 10ft side walls 18mm plywood and inner vinyl boards. I was able to reuse the aluminium outer skin. I had to remove and replace all cupboards etc. The door and the outer toilet door were also repaired. The repairs cost me £300. It is now rock solid and tucked away until the spring. I will be interested to see how you get on.
All the best,
Fred
I am in the process of repairing a damp damaged wall in my cruiser, Fred, where did you get the inner boards from, do they come with the vinyl coating or is this bought seaperately and added to normal plywood?
Hello Radjk,
I got the vinyl boards from Magnum Motorhomes website. Look under 'wall lining' They come in 7ft x 4ft sheets. They are 3mm ply with vinyl attached. £16.35 per sheet. I used 'swift plaster' which is very close to my inner walls colour.
Fred.
I will be watching with interest. I have a sitution i brought a pennine pullman 1993 folding camper this year and unfortunately when we folded it down at the end of our summer hoilday we ripped the canvas by accident. We have been give a quote on a new canvas and awning to match but i really don't know whether to get new canvas or look for a another camper. There isnt anything wrong with the base of the camper just its age. We have had a lovely summer in it and my kids love it. What shall i do. HELP.
If the rip is not too big and on a side wall use a needle, thread and a thimble and sow it from the inside. Then waterproof it. If it is the roof it might let in rain. How big is the tear? You must have shed a tear.
Fred.
