Hi everyone,

I'd welcome your advice on choosing a trailer tent. We are a family of 5, 2 adults, 12 year old, 6 year old and baby. I've been trawling through this site looking at your reviews and I'm totally confused! So what would you recommend (I've a 1.4 litre petrol car and don't plan on changing). I'm thinking that when we go camping (probably France) we'll set up and stay at least a week in one place before moving on (if we move on at all). It would be nice to go away at the week-ends too but after reading some of the setup times I wonder is that really an option. Are there any tt you would recommend based on the above and any you'd stay clear off?

If there is a place selling trailer tents nearby i would go and look round because one is bound to be what your looking for. We were going to buy a caravan (naughty word on this forum) and ended up buying a folding camper instead. Many years ago we had a combi camp and loved it but not sure if it would be big enough for your family lesley

It all comes down to budget! And do you have camping gear already,or are you starting from scratch? Kitchen or not? Me,I would go for an old,cheap classic tt,a conway or trigano maybe,so you wont lose out too much if you hate it! Your car would pull any tt out there,so no worries there. Set up times between the quickest and slowest are at the most a hour with practice, and some tt's,like the Raclet quickstop can be used without the awning for short stays. As for steering clear,there are no terrible tt's,and no perfect ones either. Classic tt's can have underbed tents,a 12 year old would love that. Also,some come with a split awning,use the full set up for longer stays,and the shorter one for weekends.

The Combi camp Venezia has two double beds but they're very expensive. I agree with Ian that you need to look at them in the flesh, so to speak. There's a place in Manchester that has a really good website and you can have a look at pictures of several different kinds.
Camplets have two double beds and the French ones have too, with a space in between for the travel cot.
You might also want to look at folding campers which all have two double beds.
Don't forget that you've got all winter to do your research.

Thanks for the replies folks. I bought a Conway Royale during the week. Can't put it up because of the weather but looking forward to holidaying in it next Easter hopefully.
