Hi All

Another of my rambling sporadic posts I'm afraid.

I've finally found a decent quote to get a tow bar fitted to my Focus and now I'm hunting for a trailer tent to get me through the Festival season and the odd weekend away.

I'm looking on the cheap side of affordable, with an upper limit of about £500 but preferably less (ideally with an awning).

I have no idea at all what I am looking at in terms of brand etc, all I know is that I want to have two beds. My current looking has lead me to the likes of this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1997-CONWAY-CLIPPER-TRAILER-TENT-AWNING-/290503516453?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_HikingCamping_Tents_JN&hash=item43a35be125#ht_500wt_1156

Which, for the difference between the opening bid and buy it now, would make sense just to buy (not yet, not got my bonus yet).

Seen a lot of reasonable Conway Clippers so feedback on them would be great, also seen some Dandy Dart, though they've not had an awning and seem expensive for 30 or so year old tents.

Looking forward to a bit of extra comfort at this years festival so any other advice and hints and tips would be really rather splendid too!

Humbly,

TNU

All trailer tents should come with an awning, some have integral ( attached to main unit ) some have zip on awnings,The clipper has an integral one I know this as we had one, it was a DL model year 1991 which had the detachable kitchen unit on the back, we did'nt like it as the awning was a little on the small side and there were 4 of us and with the kitchen unit, 4 chairs and a table in there it was a bit cramped ,But it depends how many of you will be going in it, if you do go for a clipper the DL is the best one, as i said it has the kitchen where the basic models do not, hope this helps you a little

Thanks! Only two of us so the awning would likely be big enough.

There do seem to be a number of Clippers out there for under £500 (some under £400, which is better) so it looks like it could be an option.

Dandies are folding campers not trailer tents and so you will be getting more for your money, but a lot depends on what features are important to you. Also as they are made from PVC they go on for years and 30 year old Dandies are not unusual and can be in very good nick for their age. You'll find lots of info and advice on the Dandy Forum and the main site for the forum
also there's a Dandy Forum on Yahoo but you have to join to read the posts.
There's plenty of discussion about old dandies and also about what people have done for an awning if they haven't got or don't want to use the Dandy one (which is very rare to find secondhand)

We had a DL clipper 1994. Great trailer tent for 2 of you. Also the clipper has not got a canvas roof so less inclined to need maintenance such as waterproofing. Easily put up by 2 in 30 mins so plenty of time to enjoy the festivals and a beer.

Great, thanks guys. Sounds like the Clipper might be the one for me. Cheapish, sounds plenty big enough too.

Cheers
