Hello there everyone (and Happy New year).

I am the new kid on the block after recently purchasing our first FC: a Conway Crusader - just waiting for the weather to improve so that we can take it on it's first outing!

I would be very interested to hear your thoughts please about motor movers fitted to a Crusader. I have trawled the various forums looking for advice and have a number of thoughts/questions. Favourite at the moment seems to be the Rhyno Lite (reasonable price, relatively light in weight, I don't need a cross-bar facility and easy DIY fitting).

I guess that the Crusader chassis is smaller in section than a standard caravan chassis, so anyone had particular success/problems when fitting a Rhyno mover?

I guess that a mover hangs lower down on an FC compared to a caravan, so has anyone got any advice please how not to end up with a damaged mover/chassis due to snagging the mover on speedbumps?

Do movers get in the way of the jacking point on a Crusader?

And finally, I have read that replacing the standard jockey wheel with a pneumatic-tyre jockey is a good idea with a mover. Any thoughts please?

Sorry for so many questions in my first post, but you seem like a great bunch of people out there, so I hope that you don't mind.

Thanks in advance,
Kind Regards,
Peter T.

Hi Peter,

Welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy your time here.

I have copied a link below to this topic in an earlier conversation, I know one of the users has referred to the Crusader on there.

Good luck with your quest as I will be watching closely as we havea Crusader too.

Ian.

I have recently had an Enduro 2 fitted to my Pennine Pathfinder. Basically the same as the Conway Crusader.

The mover has to go behind the wheels as there are cross members in front of the wheels that stop a Mover being fitted there.

The chassis member on a FC is much shallower than on a caravan and so a special bracket had to be fitted to the chassis before the mover could be fitted in place.

Because of the restricted working space, I would recomemend that the fitting of the actual mover be done by two people because the mover, held by a Jack and its spacers, have to be held in place by one person, while the other person tightens the nuts and bolts.

Once the mover is bolted in place, then the rest is straight forward, as long as you have the correct tools, like heavy duty Electrical Crimping Pliers etc.

I paid a professional fitter to fit mine and although he knew what he was doing, it still took him four and a half hours.

If you have not fitted one before, give yourself a weekend.

hello,  I had a new system installed by Rhyno last May to my 2010 Platinum crusader.  No dramas, fitter came to my home and did the work in 3 hours.  Speak direct with Simon at Rhyno if you are interested in prices.  I paid £800 all in, and it comes with a life time guarentee.  Would not be without it.  FC are allegedly light and easy to move,  Well thats ok if you have the manpower available to negotiate off, and into drives and on site.  This kit takes the difficulty out of the whole process.   I welcome more questions.

We selected fully automatic Powr (that is how it is spelt) Mover in 2010 - around £935 (manual version about £200 cheaper) to our 2010 Conway Crusader.

Fitter came to house- no problems - we sacrificed the TV aerial point in the battery box so the isolation switch could be fitted.

The mover is not significantly lower than the chassis so no ground clearance is lost.

As our units weighs more than many a caravan this piece of kit is invaluable.

Managed to get 100 amp/hour gel battery to fit the battery box.

Only one hole drilled through the floor into the electrics locker.

The galvanised chassis remains intact due to bolt on fitting.

We find it very simple and precise to use.

Best wishes from 2 crinklies

Hi Everyone,

Many thanks to the people who have posted their thoughts and ideas about fitting a motor-mover to a Conway Crusader.
I have now taken the plunge and purchased a Rhyno Charger for DIY fitting which arrived last week. Talked to Simon at Rhyno UK on 5th Jan, and managed to get it at a special Christmas price. Technically speaking it was still Christmas because the 5th Jan was the 12th day of Christmas (I could clearly hear the 12 drummers drumming!!)
I am now looking forward to some warmer, drier days so that I can get outside and fit it. I will post some details of how easy it was to fit after it is all completed.

Peter
