Afternoon all. New to this site and new to trailer tenting. Have been perusing e-bay in the hope of buying a trailer tent this year. Wanting to spend up to £500 ideally which is do-able.  I really like the look of the Trigano Chantilly and some of the Raclet ones but really don't mind which model I get. However, could anyone tell me which models I should go for if I DON'T want a huge great pole in the middle of my awning space. It wouldn't bother me too much but hubby is adamant that it would get in the way. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

there is a pole in our 1995 chantilly ,no idea where its supposed to go but we place it at the very front where it hapilly sits between the door openings touching the canvas,it doesnt support much so i guess on non windy days you could leave it out

Have you thought of a folding camper? We bought one off Ebay 3 years ago after  looking for a descent Trailer tent for nearly a year.So glad we did. The awning on our Pennine Fiesta is the same as a caravan awning,no pole in the middle.

Hi and welcome to the site, as already said by fatbloke28 re the chantilly there is a pole right at the very front of the awning which supports the front of the frame, but as far as i am aware none in the very middle of the awning which i think you are concerned about, the only thing with chantilly's the frames tend to be very complicated but having said that they are very good well made units,as for raclets I don't know much about those, but there is someone on the forum named racletcharlie who may be able to help you regarding those and advise you as to which to go for when he comes on.

Hi Rachel, Welcome, Like corpogreen says why not go for a folding camper, we’ve had both trailer tent & folding camper and we preferred folding camper, a lot quicker setting up & the kitchen is in the trailer,

We had a pole in our conway trailer tent just as we stepped out of trailer, its because we had extra metre wide section of awning.

The triganos have a double awning feature where by you can have a standard awning (3m out I think) then you can add an extension. Another 2 metres out, making the awning huge and fantastic for family space, Ours was a massive beast but with kids and dogs and all the clobber even in wet weather you have room for everything. With the second awning up you will have the pole in the middle which is essential for support. The standard awnings do not need the extra pole, only when you add the extra do you get the pole. most normal awnings dont have a pole in the centre of the awning.

I wonder if you have been seeing photos of them fully put up with both awnings up. You can also just put up the 2m section for short stays, The triganos are versatile.

Where else have you been looking?  Preloved, Gumtree, ad-trader, the free-ads on here, free-ads, friday-ads, trade-it and just googling will sometimes throw up what you want.

The Chantilly is a very nice looking tt and you can get them with the awning extention and sun canopy :)

Good Luck with your search and let us know how you get on :)

We have a Raclet Flores 480R which has a very large awning (4.4m wide & 4.75 long) which doesn't have any poles in the middle of the awning space. It does have a separate kitchen area, toilet & wardrobe, which is part of the roof lining.

Not having to worry about where to put the table/sofa etc or walking into a pole during night time trips to the loo, was one of the things I really like

You can get an additional awning extension, which is about 1 meter, but I'm not sure if this would have a supporting pole in the middle. To be honest, with an awning that size, I've never seen the need to have one.

We had a folding camper a few years back, which we bought new (Pennine Pathfinder) which was fantastic. Very luxurious, but too heavy for our campervan to pull really, and we lost our storage. Trailer's kept under the carport now. So don't forget to check the weight/storage if you are thinking of a folding camper.

All the best for your hunt
