I had noticed a problem last year in that one side of our 2003 Pennine Pullman was sitting lower although it still seemed to tow fine.

Now it is getting towards the time of year we are thinking about planning to use it again the issue is playing on my mind especially as we are planning to head over to france in June.

Has anyone experience this issue? I am not sure if it can be repaired or whether a new axle is required. The axle is a Al-ko B850-5. I believe replacements are approx. £350.

if its an ALKO then the rubber inserts may have failed Remove the wheel & check the rubber inserts round the axle tube they should protrude about 1/2 "

I am shocked to hear of the suspension on a 2003 Pennine giving out.

1983 perhaps but not anything younger.

The only experience I have had of a suspension going like this was on a caravan that had been involved in an accident.

It had snaked off the road, hitting the kerb with quite a clout.

The damage to the suspension was not apparent at first but some time later the suspension started to give way and slowly got worse until the tyre was rubbing on the top of the wheel arch.

I scrapped the van when it got this bad.

I've received a quote for the supply of a replacement axle. It came in at £500 (inc vat and del). There is a Al-ko service centre not too far away so I am going to run it over there when I get time and get their opinion before deciding what to do. The rest of the folding camper is in mint condition so would probably pay for a replacement/repair if the current issue is deemed to be terminal.
