Can anyone help??? We bought a lovely second hand trailer tent last year but on our first outing found that we had lots of problems so have had to spend a bit of money sorting it out in order to make it useable for our family holiday this year. I am wondering if anyone has any of the following items that they would be interested in selling or if anyone has any recommendations on where to buy this cheaply...

Trailer tent awning curtains- the ones that go on the plastic strip (we discovered that ours had been packed away at the bottom of the trailer wet and were rotten and threadbare)

Porta Loo and Toilet tent (We have two young children who are both now toilet trained but havent yet learnt the art of going before they are bursting so want to have something close by at night time)

Breathable groundsheet/awning carpet..not sure on size needed but happy to use several if we can get them cheap enough. Maybe 10ft by 12ft.

Pup tents for Conway trailer tent

Any help or assistance would be much appreciated.

Helen

Hi Helen -

Did you keep the plastic bits from the top of the rotten curtains?..No didn't think so

Have a look at caravan awning curtains there are more of them about - they may have the same plastic strip fixing but I am not sure.

If you can't find any at reasonable price, how about making your own. Next time you have the awning up have a look at the top of the window to see if there is anything to clip or stich a loop to and then get some cheap curtain wire or net curtain rods. Buy one or two duvet covers from B&M or Poundstretcher, cut them to size and either stitch the hems and sides and a channel at the top for the wire or use wundaweb iron on tape. Simples.

Lots of second hand portaloos and toilet tents on ebay as campingkev says or you might just want to use a bucket with a lid (like a nappy bucket) while the kids are small

Breathable groundsheets are all very well but if it rains and the ground gets wet it just comes up through when you tread on it- I ended up putting a tarp underneath mine which defeats the object. Again ebay is probably your best bet as it's not cheap brand new.

You should be able to use the universal pup tents that come up regularly on ebay rather than the more expensive Conway ones - you may need to change the fixings bit I think they all have c-clips that attatch to the bed boards.

Good luck with everything

For your curtains you could always thread some new home made curtains on a piece of elastic stretched between 2 poles so they cover the window and can be pushed back out of the way during the day.

For the portaloo, i've got one but tend not to use it, it's easier to take a bucket n lid.  If it's for night time use and you've sorted your curtains you don't need the toilet tent as it'll be dark in the awning and your curtains drawn!

Groundsheet, you can either use a cheap rustly tarp, a more expensive thicker rubberier one or a more expensive breathable one that will let the mud through when it rains.  I'd start with the cheap one.  Get it a bit bigger than the area and take it up the sides of the awning a bit to stop drafts.
