We had thought about giving up our TT this year as it is a pig to put up, but changed our minds - it does give you the best of both worlds. We have booked a site with only hardstanding pitches left at easter. These would be no good with a tent, but we can get away with it with the TT! I also noticed that some sites charge a set fee for a TT, but per person for a tent, so it is cheaper for us to use the TT on those sites - supposedly you use less of the site facilities with a TT!
We will put up with the difficult erections for long stays, but will stick with a tent for shorter breaks!
We started off in a tt soon moved on to a caravan and have now returned to a tt :) They are heavy to put up but with practice the time does go down :)
My advice would be to put it up at least 3 times before you go away because you don't want to arrive on site not knowing how it all goes up and wasting your precious time on figuring it out :)
We can't wait for the warmer weather so that we can get our new one out and up not only to check it out but to practice putting it up and down :) If the poles are not colour coded we will be doing that too so that should make it easier. And be very careful when putting it up and down as we kept tearing our old one when we were putting it up and down but we aren't sure if that was us or just that the canvas was so old and worn that it couldn't cope with the stress :(
hey guess what 4 hours with the awning poles 4 adults we had a nightmare, actual tt took us 30 mins hahahahaha. What a laugh. looked like 4 owners had labelled the poles as its a goldie oldie well what a confusion that was i have now colour coded ffor the first pitch 8th March on a little(quiet and local) CL. main prob was kitchen extension. i would have been mortified doing that on site knowing caravanners watching and laughing yes we been there naughty I know. I am looking forward to easier tow and i like cooking more out doors anyway just hope bed comfy.
I was planning to put mine up as a trial run at home this weekend a little bit tight on space at home but thought at least I could mark a few poles and get the hang of it! guess what its raining! Oh well maybe next weekend
Clairechris - if the beds are just foam, they are NOT comfy, trust me! (unless you are rake thin and unlikely to make a dent in the foam - my children find them OK!) We use an airbed on top of ours, then it is lovely! I am planning to replace the airbed with a decent double or two single SIMs - anything just to make the mattress a bit thicker.

It is very easy to "mark a few poles" if you forget to move the awning pole outside of the kitchen before you start.
At some stage you will bend it, and so become a fully fledged Camplet owner.
Hm, I think it definitely benefits from an extra layer of something supportive, my hips and shoulders were sore next morning due to contact with the hard bed base! Personally, I don't think a sleeping bag would be enough. A double layer of thick duvet sounds about the minimum!
WE 1st starting TT's last year and found the airbed under the foam was amazing.
I know from reading on here that memory foam toppers on top of the TT foam work a treat, i'm planning to do that this year. I have a 4inch topper at home, my mum uses a 1 inch topper and says its surprisingly good for the price and thickness.
Have fun working out the best for you,
Karla

Outwell double SIMs are on Amazon at the mo for £40 including postage. I've ordered one to try with the TT - only problem with the memory foam toppers is the packing size. I am hoping the SIM will be able to be squeezed flat and left on the TT bed when folded, so taking up no extra space.

I thought the memory topper would affect the pack up size too, only lots on here have already tried and tested it and had no trouble leaving it on the beds while packing up.
