I've recently bought a 2010 Pathfinder and I'm busy scheduling lots of trips throughout this year (can't wait !)
I've been looking at a heater for cooler trips/night time(as our pathfinder doesn't have one fitted). Does any one have any recommendations ? Elec vs Gas ?
We've three kids (3months, 2yrs, 6yrs) so I was concerned about safety and placement...
I fitted a kitchen plinth heater in to the front of one of my seats looks nice and tidy plus nothing to trip over and if your on electric why use your gas
We had a fan heater in our cruiser, and with it being thermostatically controlled it kept us lovely and snug.. got plinth heater in the Cardinal and not tried it yet.
we use a cheap fan heater for the day or a quick boost of heat when we get back in after an evening out, then a oil filled radiator for overnight. The lowest cost ones from Argos do a brilliant job.
we got the £18 fan heater from Argos. It turns round as it works and cuts out if knocked over so safe round the kids though if you are handy the plinth option may be best with little kids around.

Just the obvious that if you go for an electric heater, you'll be restricting your cold conditions camping to sites with EHU.
That may not be a problem for you (it wouldn't for us, we'd never camp without EHU), but it is an issue for some people.

Hi all,

I did this last year. I did find that to fit the standard Pennine fitted Smith's SS2EW plinth heater it was necessary to enlarge the opening of the small cupboard under the oven. Rather irritating really, but only about 5 minutes work with a router resting on a block of wood.
I ran the cable into the cupboard under the sink and then into the 240V socket there. You'll need to check earth continuity is ok. Heater is about £100 online. The end result is the same as the factory fit heater option. I think Pennine charge about £300+ for the same result.
Our 2007 Pathfinder has a fan heater built in below the cooker and it is ideal for taking the chill off in the early mornings, however it is not something we would leave on overnight.
A;- It is too noisey & B;- With two wee dogs, I would be scared that they could get burnt if they lay down in front of the heater when we were not watching them.
We have a small 600w Oil Filled Radiator which is thermostatically controlled and is safe to use with the dogs. Yes it does get hot but anyone would need to be touching it for some time before it would burn them.
These are heavier than a fire but their advantages outweigh their disadvantages.
