Allo again...

I'm getting all excited about using my new Pathfinder but I had another question for other pennine owners..

Do you actually use your fridge ? Its so small a pint of milk and it would be full...

So what do you do ? Hire ? take another ? or a cool box ?

Many thanks for your replies...

Yes, the fridge is small but we have always found it holds enough bits and pieces of food for a breakfast and dinner as well as some beers/soft drink cans etc which is fine for a weekend camp.A good tip for this country is to keep extra water, milk , cans etc under the camper or bed skirts as it never really gets that warm here !!  For longer holidays and when going abroad we also take a camping fridge which we keep in the awning . For drinks, as soon as we use a cold drink we pop in another to fill its space. We usually find this works really well but you'll never get a full week's shop stored.

XVI yes?

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

No you get far more in there than you think.    We pack it all in lol!   Seriously we usually travel down with our plug in 12v cool box (with adaptor) for the actual journey and have all food in there that needs to be cool.  Once on site we switch the Pathfinder fridge on to cool and then trasfer most of the food over once cool.   You can fit in things like bacon, sasuages, eggs, milk, marge etc.  We also plug in our cool box too and keep what we cant fit in the fridge in there.  We tend to put the things that are not as important to keep cool in the cool box and the stuff that needs to be in a fridge all the time in the FC one.  As the food gets used we then transfer all food to the fridge and use the cool box as a drinks cooler.

With careful packing (and pre freezing ) you can get more in than you think and still keep things safely cool.  I would recommend removing any packaging around products that is not essential to save room too.

Having said that don't expect to get your Sunday roast in there lol!

We have an electric cool box which we pack at home and load into the fridge on site. This takes the surplus of things I like to refridgerate but dont need it. I can fit a heck of a lot more milk etc in than you think !

I drink Pepsi Max at home and naturally buy it in the 2lt bottles.

But when wwe are in the FC, we buy it in cans. Really, for using these wee fridges you have to think, "wee fridge" when you are buying anything. Or, if you are paking from home to go away, think wee fridge.

As Andcow says, removing some food packaging can save space.

We tend to cut off the cooking instructions and then repack the food in soft poly bags so that we can stuff some of our foods into smaller spaces.

Oh, and once you are away and on site and your fridge is down to temp, if you are in the UK (usual summer, not all that hot) you will probably be able to turn the fridge down a bit and save yourself some gas.

On Long hols,1-2 weeks we take a small freezer, plug into outside plug and put it under the bed. We like our wine/beer cold in the summer!we transfer frozen stuff in the fridge which helps to keep things cool. bacon, meat for the bbq etc. we also have a cool box and put food in that as well.

One thing Gallus, When you are away camping, cooking is not like at home.

We tend to live and eat more day to day and only buy in advance for up to two days.

When on a site we, more often than not, will travel about and explore one day and then laze about doing sod all the next day.

The exploring days are also the shopping days and the laze about days usually include some leisurely cooking.

Hour long breakfasts, sandwich lunches and fish suppers often take care of the exploring days, while the same breakies and lunches with 3 hour dinners take up the lazy days.

With your milk, butter, a couple of cans and your fresh meat in the fridge and the ice cream in the ice box, what more could a body ask for?
