hi all. i got a conway contiki and basically the roof of the main section (over the left) has got about 10 patches on it. looks like the previous owner has used fabric patches with some sort of glue to patch up holes.
the tt itself is a 1989 model and im not sure how much more use i can get out of it.
will fabsealing it help??
i did used to own some foreign import tt before i had this one and that was a 1979 model and it was great!
just advice needed please because if the material is no good i dont know what to do!

Hi, does the fabric feel thin and flimsy when you feel it its possible it could have had lots of use over the years sun shine doesn't do them any good have you tried giving it a bit of a tug to see if it is fraying i wouldn't have thought fabsil would do any good as to strengthening but it wouldn't do any arm either

the material feels ok, its just that theres a lot of squares on the roof with that material glue on it. might just set it up and give it a soak with a hosepipe.

Not really sure what you are asking but i'll tell you our eperience with our 1st tt - a 1987 Conway Contiki :) We were given it and it kept tearing which we patched up but it would then tear somewhere else :( We took it over to Tony Wild (who sends his canvas's to TVS to repair) but he told us that it was too old and couldn't be reapaired :(

I phoned TVS http://www.tentvaletingservices.co.uk/ and was quoted £750 for a brand new larger canvas. At the time we just didn't have that kind of money to spend so looked into a secondhand tt, tents and then decided to give caravanning a try and we have now seen the light lol and have a Conway Classic Trio which is huge :)

Hi john do they look like they might have been done by careless packing away or chewed by mice if so the cloth may still be good and just want proofing to make sure it water tight its probably a good idea to get the hose on it and check

cheers all. i will check it, but il waterproof it first. the rest of the tt seems to be ok, just the odd patch on the side of the awning and a 4 inch repair by the awning door. the roof itself seems fairly good, apart from those patches i was on about.
when the tt is packed away and you take the transit cover off, the forst thing you can see are the patches, so thinking about it, maybe kev could be right about it being packed away wrong where something has pierced the fabric.
the only way to tell for sure is to get it sealed and to give it a soaking.

Are there any patches on the transit cover as well if so somebody might have had a go at it in the past there are some nasty people about

well i do have to replace the transit cover because of wear and tear because its got a hole in it where the metal bars are inside the tt (near the back by the kitchen end) but luckily enough i store it in my garage.
