One of the problems I had in both buying the FC and selling the Pop Top was the distances involved.
Now, in the past that would have been a really big problem but with the advent of digital cameras and the speed of email communications, it is not such a major problem today.
In the case of us buying the FC, we saw the advert on the Preloved Website and contacted the owner. He then sent us a huge number of pictures covering all aspects of the unit and we agreed a price. We then sent him a deposit and he then brought the FC halfway, to a campsite near Carlisle, We travelled down there, met him, saw the unit up and all that, gave him the money and we came home with our FC from there. Okay, it was a strange way to do it but when you live out in the sticks as we do, sometimes you have to take folks at face value and trust your luck.
I know that many on here will disagree wih this way of buying, but the only time I have bought "a pig in a poke" was a caravan bought by the more normal methods that came as half a bargain and half a sob story and I was as well gutted as a scabby Mackerel.
With the Pop Top Caravan, the selling took a fair length of time because of the distances involved, the clearing of Cheques and Bank Transfers and just the physical driving up and down between viewing the unit and then coming and collecting it.
However, folks up here are buying and selling units every year and once the distances are understood and common sense with respect to your hard earned Shekels, is put in place, there are some fantastic bargains out there ready for the plucking.
We bought a brand spanking new caravan in 2007 which turned out to be nothing like what the manufacturer had promised and became more of a Millstone than a Dream Machine. We sold that and in Aug last year we bought a 2007 FC which has several parts that have never been used and in all respects it is almost new. Now that is a "Dream Machine". Come this summer season we intend to be away in our FC for atleast 5 if not 6 months and to get more camping done this year than the combined camping of the past 10 years.
Good luck with your TT hunt. I am sure you will get what you want eventually.
