Hi, after picking up my trailer tent noticed that the kitchen pole has the traditional kink in it, ordered a repair kit from camperlands, was wondering if anyone knew how the repair is done, and if there are any tips.

Thanks

Mark

Took ours to Camperlands and they fixed it for £38. I wanted to do it myself but my wife insisted I was incapable [never mind she didn't have a clue what was involved - but neither did I; however, it can't be rocket science].

Unfortunately, we haven't put it up since so I don't know exactly what they did.   Probably a steel sleeve over the existing - it can't be rocket science after all.

The interesting [annoying] thing is this is a common problem.   You'd have thought Camplet would have designed some sort of interlocking system to prevent the tent being pulled up before the strainer bar was out.

And we weren't complete novices - we'd already put it up 23 times before we fmanaged to screw up!!

p.s. Sorry, I'm not talking about the kitchen pole - but the one that extends to the side of the trailer on the kitchen side of the rig

Yes! a common thing to happen .It is because the bar that is swung over BEFORE  hauling it up  over the kitchen to raise It.was not done swung out., so when it was pulled over it kinked the bar. The same in reverse, when it is ready to go down onto the trailer PUT that right hand side bar OVER inside and &  lock it down with the taped loop, that is for that purpose to keep it down in place. Then you fold the canvas in and haul the top over to close it. The reverse is when you have got the camper open, kitchen is out. Your just straightening the canvas READY to go up. THEN the bar is undone from the tape loop and pushed OUT to  the right.

Now if you can arrange them in Camperlands to do it all well and good. They need the total lot.Other wise you have to cut the kink out OR be given a piece that goes right over the cut piece forming a cover then it is staple gunned into place. Its like putting a lagging tube over the bad bit although not sure whether they cut or just bend it back  as they undo the pipe at the bottom and force this section up over the bent bit and staple it. We took it to them. But it makes it exceptionally strong so I would not worry about it afterwards. Nowadays they tel

l everyone about that bar. They never told us we learnt the hard way. Worried out of our lives as we had only had it about 3 weeks and we travelled from Boroughbridge campsite to Manchester got it done and back onto Nottingham where our next site was. Easy done they said they got a lot of repairs at first. So they were sent kits from the maker.

That is if it is the usual one that has bent. if its any other I should imagine its the same way of doing it.Staple gun big staples good ones. Not small

Hope this is not as clear as mud. Good Luck

I am talking about the same as above aslo and we continued camping in it for another 7 weeks as we had not long stated off on our usual long hols.and then another 8 weeks the following year. Only giving it up because I cannot get out of the bed without asking my Bob anytime of the night for help, I am disabled in a wheelchair 98% of the time. But would still be in it now as it was our own mistake. Should of got one with a little passage between the beds to get up onto. Gone now, but very strong no problems afterward. If Camperlands will do it, its worth paying them to do.But they do need the whole t.t

They did tell us about the potential to damage the bar - but we still managed it!?!     And this is after we'd put it up over 20 times before - Doh!

I guess it's best to allocate one person to do that particular 'job'.   But there's always the chance that if you're rushing ['cos it's raining, windy - or, like us, snowing] you get out of sequence.   This is what happened to us.

I really do think Camplet should come up with some sort of system where you can't pull the tent up until the bar is extended - the hold-down strap obviously doesn't do this.
