I was looking at the TT's in Camperlands the other day, and noticed that the Cabanon units had a ZiG in the living area, I thought this was a great idea, as it would help keep bugs away, and also stop them entering the sleeping area.

Now Folding Campers seem to be able to keep out bugs from the main cabin and sleeping area, using zip up sides etc, but the attached awnings seem to just use regular groundsheets, which is fine, but I was wondering if any of you Folding Camper folk, know if any makes come with ZiG for the awning ?.

Well from that, I can deduce that "Zipped In Groundsheets" aka "ZiG" have not yet reached the world of Folding Camper awnings, it's not rocket science, but I guess the technology needs to catch up, in the meantime I will be sticking with my tent, that has a full ZiG.

i suppose the raclet quickstop comes close not really a fc but not a tt,and the new one has a zig.

We have a bucket groundsheet that can be used in the awning....   it has strong velcro about 1.5 inches wide all the way round, except in the door ways. The canvas of the awning has the corresponding strip. This goes on and off like a dream and far more easily than zipping.

No reason why you cannot make your own version of this

The awning is more like a caravan awning in many ways and not sure if any of those ever come with a ZIG or SIG

Doesn't the velcro get bits of dry grass etc stuck in it? A ZIG is a pain but at least it doesn't get clogged up with debris. What are your thoughts on this?

Have had no trouble so far.

The velcro is on the inside of the canvas and about 7 inches up from the ground.

We only use this when camping in the UK and the autumn/winter time...not too much extraneous grass at that time of year

Are you thinking of upgrading from your Biscaya? Why not stick with Cabanon? There's some amazing deals on eBay for the Stratos/Mercury. I paid £1740 for a second hand but never used Stratos last year with Kitchen. Amazing value. Theres one on now that's been used once for less than £1800, albeit with no kitchen. As I'm sure you know the Stratos is very similar to your Biscaya, but with the trailer and two double beds. The cab is cotton and the awning is all season polyester. They may not be as quick to erect or as versatile as a FC. But for the money I think they're superb. And, they have a ZIG!! You need to keep it tidy inside too, as you get quite a few folks wanting to have a nosey inside.

Hi Andy.
        Thanks for that, I am still not fully decided which way to go, either TT or FC, I have viewed the Cabanon TT's at Camperlands, and did quite like them, as you mention some models are like my Biscaya with there ZiG's for the living area.

But what I like about FC's is that the cooker and seating area etc is all in the main cabin, which would be real handy for just doing an overnight stop at a campsite, on my journey to Southern France, even a hardstanding would be dooable, which is not qiute the case with a TT, apart from just using the sleeping cabin.

It's all work in progress, and I am visiting Caseys next week to have a look at the FC's on display.

I don't think I am going to find a FC wih ZiG, but does this matter?, as you can still seal the cabin/living area of the FC to prevent bugs getting in, for a hassle free nights sleep, am I right in thinking this is the case.

It's just the thought of stepping into the awning first thing in the morning, and treading on a snake, or tripping over a wild boar etc.
